Peek at Our Week

on November 13, 2016

Hello Haigh Families 🙂

The book fair is here at Haigh! Our students will be visiting the fair tomorrow at 11 am. During this time students can make purchases and create a list for future purchases. The book fair will be open all week.

We have late start on Wednesday. Students start class at 9:35.

Parent/Teacher conferences are after school on Wednesday and Thursday for those parents who I did not meet with last week. I really enjoy the opportunity to meet and talk with each one of you about the progress of your child. Positive parent/teacher commitment is an important part of the success of your child 🙂

Academic Vocabulary:

  1. Decade- a period of ten years.
  2. Light- Energy that can be seen.
  3. Digit- A number.
  4. Primary Source- Records made by people who saw or took place in an event.
  5. Glossary- An alphabetical list of terms found in the BACK of a nonfiction text.

This week we will continue to learn about nonfiction reading strategies while reading various articles. We will focus on answering extended response questions where we will include a deep reasoning and evidence from the text to support our answers.

We will be finishing up our compare papers of the upper and lower peninsula.

We will be wrapping up our unit in math with learning about patterns and function tables. We will be having our unit 2  math test on Friday. I will be sending home their pretest to study from either Monday or Tuesday. Please review this with them so they are prepared for the test on Friday.

We will begin to learn about the Native Americans in Michigan. This is a fun unit for students to learn about. They will be creating a google slideshow about each of the tribes using google classroom. They will learn how to insert text boxes and paste pictures into their slideshows.

We will begin to learn about light energy. We will focus on light makers and where light comes from this week.

This is sure to be a busy week! I have uploaded the homework onto the blog for those of you who print at home.

Have a great Sunday…..I know I have a lot of raking to do 🙂
