Extra Credit Assignment – Due Sunday Night

Hello,

So many students have asked for a chance at extra credit before the end of the card marking. Below you will find the directions of the assignment.

With everything going on with COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the government, both state and federal, has taken upon itself to make decisions and assert authority that normally would not occur. Things like asking people to stay in their homes, asking businesses to start making medical supplies, and stimulus packages are all examples of actions that usually only occur during an emergency or war.

Your assignment is as follows:

  1. Identify the action that the government is taking and explain what it is.
  2. Identify the act or amendment that gives the government the power to perform that action.
  3. Explain why the government is able to take that action based on that power.

For each action you analyze, you can earn up to 1 summative point. You can analyze up to 5 actions that the state or federal government is taking.

I am posting a google assignment where you can complete this task.

Please email me if you have any questions.

Online Conferences – Zoom

Hello,

So I have set up and posted some online conferences for the next couple of days. 1st and 2nd hours are scheduled for tomorrow. 3rd, 5th, and 6th hours are scheduled for Thursday. Check Google Classroom for links and passwords.

I don’t have anything specific to cover, but I wanted to provide a time for you to check-in and get help if you need it, or simply have a chance to socialize with the class. Questions, concerns, random tidbits of interesting facts; almost all topics are welcomed (some topics are not).

If these times don’t work or you need more help let me know and we can set up a time to talk.

Look forward to talking to you,

Mr. Blake

Final Draft

Hello,

Today we did our first video conferences, hopefully, those of you who participated in them enjoyed the experience. We will possibly have some more next week.

Feedback should be available for your essays on iLearn. Because some people didn’t give feedback to those who were assigned to them, if you don’t see feedback don’t freak out. If you didn’t get feedback, please let me know I will take a look at yours.

Because of this, I am going to push submissions of Final Drafts to Monday. I will open up the assignment back to the submission phase. You will replace your rough draft with your final draft.

Hope you have had a good week,

Mr. Blake

Peer Edits and Final Drafts

Hello,

I know there are a few students who have not finished their peer edits. I am going to give you until this afternoon to get those finished. Tomorrow I will open up submissions for final drafts so that you have time to read the feedback and make changes.

All of this is happening in the same spot, Investigation 3 in the 8th Grade Writing iLearn class. If you want to get ahead of revising your final draft, you can revise the Google Doc where you originally wrote it (hopefully you did that).

I was hoping to do video conferencing today, but I will be up at the school to help get computers ready and I don’t know when that will be finished. I am thinking of doing a test run tonight, so keep an eye out for that announcement as well.

I hope you have a great day. Miss you all.

Mr. Blake

Peer Editing is Available

Hello,

Peer editing has been made available on iLearn. Everyone has been assigned 5 peers, whose papers they need to review. Some of you have still not turned in your letter, at this point you are missing out on peer editing.
