Density Online Simulation and Lab
In class, we have talked about objects sinking or floating in water. This is determine based on the objects density.
The lab we will be working on today allows you to interact with different object to begin to see relationships between mass, volume, and density.

Density Worksheet Due Tomorrow
A couple of tips.
- Mass = number of circles, each circle is 1 gram.
- Volume is how big the boxes are, bigger box = bigger volume.
- Density is how “packed” and object is. closer together molecules, higher density.

Just a Few Reminders
Students, I just wanted to make a quick post (it has been awhile, that’s my bad) to update you on some things you will need to know.
Quiz Retake
Tomorrow morning at 7:20 is the retake for the chemical changes quiz.
You need to do the following if you plan to retake:
- Make sure you have no missing assignments
- Print your original quiz and make corrections
- Have a parent sign your original test
NewsELA
You also have a NewsELA article due tomorrow. The article was on Bio-luminescence and should be in your binder if you log in to the site using your school email and password.
If, for any reason, you are not enrolled in my classroom, the code will be pasted below:

Link to PhET Simulation Lab Final Project
PLEASE READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE DOING ANYTHING
STEP 1: You will need to access the document using the link provided below. This is a google document that will not need to be printed, you will answer the questions directly on the document.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kZfKs03c0jWjveTdx1MqumlG2hbYrAzjJ8knNTzBg2Q/edit?usp=sharing
STEP 2: You will need to make a copy of the document. To do this, go to “file” and select “Make a Copy”
You will know this has been done correctly because you will see this box show up.
STEP 3: Rename the copy of the document to “States of Matter Summary Lab (YOUR NAME).” For example, mine would be titled “States of Matter Summary Lab Mr. Bailey”
Once you’ve renamed your Document, hit “DONE” this will open up your copy.
STEP 4: Type your name in the name section to make sure your document copy worked. If you cannot type your name, you need to start again at the first step.
STEP 5: In the top right corner of your document, there should be a “SHARE” button. Click that!
STEP 6: When it asks you to type who you are sharing with, you first must share with me. If you do not share with me, you will not be able to get a grade!
To share with me, type baileym in the box, I should appear…. I’m Matthew Bailey
If you are working with a partner, be sure to share with them as well.
STEP 7: You may now begin working on the lab.

Continuation of States of Matter Simulation (10/5)
Today, we continued to explore the behavior of molecules of a substance. We went a bit more in depth than yesterday, seeing what actually happens at state changes.
If you did not, please complete the sheet from today in class by Monday.

Assignment for 10/4
Students,
Today in class we used a “PhET” simulation to help us model and understanding the functions and behaviors of molecules that we would normally be unable to see. To get familiar with the simulation, we worked on a simple assignment, which can be found (HERE) States of Matter Simulation Note there are two copies of the sheet on one page, you only need to do it one time.
The website used for this activity can be found using the link below
https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/states-of-matter-basics/latest/states-of-matter-basics_en.html
Be sure to click the “States” option!

Scientific Method Test Retake
Most students have now completed the scientific methods test. Students as a whole did very well on the test, however, I will always allow those students who would like to improve their grade an opportunity to retake the test. Students may retake for the test on Wednesday after school in my classroom or Wednesday morning in Ms. Duquette’s classroom at 7:20. Ms. Duquette and I use the same tests. The retake test will be in a different format than the original test. Please follow the retake policy to be eligible to retake the test.

Test Monday
Students,
Remember, you have a Scientific Method test on Monday!
The kahoot game we used in class can be found here
Everything in your Interactive Notebooks, including labs, is fair game to be included on the test!
Email me with questions, but I will be out of town so may not be too quick to respond. USE YOUR CLASSMATES AS A RESOURCE TO STUDY!

Bryant Robotics Team Application
Hello Students and Families,
For those of you unaware, I am a coach of Bryant’s Robotics Team along with Ms. Duquette. We are about to begin our 2018-2019 season and have spaces to fill on our team.
The team is able to hold 15 students, and students can be in 6th-8th grade. Instead of a traditional “tryout” you would get with other teams, Robotics uses an application form which gives students a chance to explain to the coaches what skills they have that can be useful to the team.
Parents, this is a time intensive club (especially during competition season) and requires students to attend meets on Saturdays. The number of competitions we will attend has not been determined, but they all fall on weekends.
There are a lot of moving pieces, no pun intended, and parent involvement is strongly encouraged.
Students, if you are interested in applying, please submit the application below. If you were on the team last year, you will still need to fill out the application for this year’s season!
Please have the application completed by Wednesday, September 26th.
