Welcome to the 2018/2019 School Year!

Hello students and families,

I would like to take a moment to welcome you to the new school year and give a quick overview of some expectations for the upcoming school year. If you found your way to my blog using the syllabus I passed out in class, much of this information will be repeated from there.

Who I am?

My name is Matthew Bailey, and I teach 7th Grade science at Bryant. I have been teaching the 7th grade course for going on 4 years (with an additional year of public school teaching experience at the Kindergarten level). I truly do enjoy science and what it has to offer to both students and adults. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and 2 cats, I love movies, I play video games, and I try to find time to read. I did my undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan – Dearborn focusing on Science and Math, and currently am attending Wayne State University to obtain a Master’s degree in English as a Second Language (due to finish in December).

When it comes to teaching, my philosophy is heavily influenced by inquiry. It is my goal to not spend each day in class lecturing, but instead promoting critical thinking and urging students to ask questions and explore their own methods of finding a conclusion.  I want students to not only develop science knowledge, but skills that they can take with them outside of the classroom into any real-world setting.

Classroom Supplies

If possible, I suggest that each student have the following:

  • Spiral Notebook
  • 100 page Composition Notebook (college bound)
  • Folder
  • Colored Pencils

If supplies are difficult to come by, please email me or have your student talk to me after class. I will help where I can!

More details can be found in the syllabus sent home with your student, or conveniently found HERE
