Exploring Earthquake’s Lab
Last week, we took sometime to learn about Earthquake’s, their cause, and the consequences they have on the surface of the Earth. We put our engineering hats on, with a goal in mind: to design a building that would be able to withstand the effects of a quake.
Our first steps involved planning out a design on how we wanted our buildings to look. The catch, we only had a budget of $500 and each material cost a portion of that budget, Toothpicks were $5 each, marshmallows were $10.
After our initial designs, we were tasked with building the first version of our building. We were able to make three changes to our building during the building process. We made changes based on how sturdy we felt our completed buildings were. If we had the money in our budget, we were also able to pay to “test” our building.
After the final test, many buildings were able to survive the earthquake. Others were not so lucky.
