Newsletter for May 31st

Hello!

We had a short week and I was in a lot of meetings during these short few days..so not too much to report!

We had visitors come from another school and observe our class during writer’s workshop on Wednesday because they had heard about the wonderful things we have been doing! They were so impressed with our kindergartner’s work and are taking some ideas back to implement in their own rooms! Way to go Kindergarten!

We had fun with our last PBIS together, and have lots of fun activities coming up as we enter our last 7 days of kindergarten together. It’s crazy how fast time has gone this year. Enjoy at least a few pictures below and have a relaxing 5 day break. 🙂

Field Day Information

Dear Parents and Guardians,

To help us celebrate the end of another fantastic school year, we will be having Field Day on Monday, June 10, 2019.  For this Field Day event students will work through stations with their class to develop skills they have learned in physical education and have tons of fun!  The schedule for the event is as follows:

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM All School Picnic

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM 3rd, 4th and 5th Grades

On June 10, students need to wear clothes that will allow them to be physically active outside, including tennis shoes.  They need to bring a water bottle. There will be a station to refill bottles if needed. Students are highly encouraged to bring a bagged lunch to enjoy at the all school picnic.  They are welcome to bring a towel or blanket to sit on as well. Students will be able to purchase school lunch if necessary.

We are looking for one parent from each classroom to donate a treat for the entire class to enjoy after their session.  Please, contact the classroom teacher if you would like to donate.

Lastly, we need 15 parent volunteers for both sessions to help run stations.  If you are interested in volunteering, fill out the lower portion and return it to Mr. Peecher.  Please, contact Mr. Peecher with any questions. peechers@dearbornschools.org

Thanks!  The PBIS & Field Day Committee

PBIS May 31st

Families,

The end of the month is here, and that means it is time for our final PBIS celebration of the year! On Friday May 31st, if your child has maintained positive behavior for the entire month, they will participate in Game Day! Students can bring in games/cards/puzzles from home to play at school with their friends. You are free to send in electronics with your child if you feel comfortable doing so; however, please keep in mind that they will be responsible for their games and all game parts. Please label everything that is brought in so nothing is misplaced. This is a super fun event and a great way to recognize the positive behavior throughout our school.

Thanks for your continued support,

Haigh’s PBIS Committee

What We Did During Our Week:

We got to practice reading our dolphin reports and recorded them in front of the green screen! They did a great job, and I hope you enjoyed seeing them on seesaw! We have started writing pages for our end of kindergarten memory book. This week they wrote about themselves, their friends, their favorite recess activity and their favorite lunch in kindergarten. We will continue to work on these next week as well!

We have officially finished up Eureka Math for the school year and will spend the afternoons enjoying fun math centers now. 🙂

Other:

We are doing a lot of testing! Every child has taken the reading portion of NWEA, and we will take math next week. Once all testing is done, I will send home your child’s scores for NWEA as well as reading level. They are doing great so far!

Friday we were able to see buddies and they wrote a page together on their favorite memories with big buddies from the year.

Upcoming Events:

No school May 24 & May 27th

Newsletter for May 10th

What We Did During Our Week:

We have been studying dolphins and working on informational writing. They have put so much work into this! We wrote a “can, have, are” chart of dolphins, wrote a rough draft on dolphins, edited these papers, and have now published these onto a final copy. We did our directed drawing of dolphins in seesaw and have transferred this drawing skill to our final copy! Keep a close eye on seesaw next week, as we have big plans in store for these papers! There will be a green screen involved! Check out a sneak peek below of us getting all the kinks out before next week’s recording days. 🙂

I am continually so impressed with the work that these kindergartners (almost 1st graders!) are capable of!!

We are officially done with spelling words! They have worked so hard all year! You can keep the spelling booklets at home for a kindergarten memory keepsake. 😉

Next week is our last week for homework!

We are finishing up module 6 next week – it was a short module for reviewing shapes!

Other:

While we are having lots of fun activities going on at school, next week also marks the beginning of end of year testing. We will be testing either one-on-one or in small groups for the next two weeks. Please be sure to send in snacks everyday with your child and ensure they are getting a good night’s sleep! They will do great. 🙂

Thanks for going along with our May “Random Acts of Kindness” Calendar. It has been so great hearing the positive conversations going on in the classroom and I’m sure at home as well. 🙂 Keep it up!

I hope you all enjoy a wonderful Mother’s Day. They loved putting together the crafts, and humorous writings! You all have raised wonderful children – enjoy spending time with them on Sunday.

Upcoming Events:

Monday, May 13th – clean up parade 1:30 (more info to follow)

Wednesday, May 15th – Late Start

No school May 24 & May 27th

Spelling Booklets

Good morning!

Spelling booklets will be coming home today. Please note that there are two “Test 18″s in them. The substitute on Friday did not understand the directions and only had them spell the sight words. So, we re-did the test today. Please disregard the first test completed on May 3rd. Thanks 🙂

This is our last spelling test for the year and it will be the -ing family. There are no sight words, they will all be spelled. “king, sing, wing, ring, ding, sting, thing, bring, swing, bonus word”.

Thanks everyone and happy Monday!

Newsletter for April 26th

What We Did During Our Week:

We finished up with all our Earth day writings and crafts. We made a fun craft with us holding up the Earth. We colored coffee filters, took them outside and sprayed them with water to see the colors blend together. We also wrote about things we can reduce, reuse, and recycle. Our work is displayed in the hallway! We have moved onto informational learning about the ocean – we talked about animals that live in the ocean, and they all voted on one to learn more about. We will be focusing on dolphins and writing informational pieces about this animal in the next 2 weeks. We also wrote about our star student, John!

Next week’s spelling words: tag, wag, bag, rag, flag, bonus word

Sight words to be read: jump, down, her, eat

There is only one more spelling test following the -ag family!

We are finishing up module 5 – by now your child should be comfortable with teen numbers. This includes reading them, counting, them, writing them, and saying them the ‘ten way’ (knowing that there is a ten in every number). We finish up module 5 next week and take our end of the unit test.

Other:

We are quickly approaching the end of the school year. May is a busy month! We will begin end of year testing the week of May 12th. This is when we take NWEA for reading and math, complete DRA tasks, and assess reading levels. Be sure to keep reading as we approach the end of the year, even though I know schedules start to become hectic around this time of year.

As a heads up, we will be having our end of the year kindergarten celebration on June 13th from 1:30-3:30. All families will be welcome to attend this fun event. We will be sending out a more detailed note down the road, just thought I’d share now to be able to mark your calendars. 🙂

Upcoming Events:

Monday, May 13th – clean up parade 1:30 (more info to follow)

Wednesday, May 15th – Late Start

No school May 24 & May 27th

PBIS on Monday April 22nd

PBIS Celebrations

Dear Families,

On Monday, April 22nd we will be having a PBIS celebration to recognize your child’s positive behavior. This month’s celebration theme is Picnic for the Planet. We will be having our lunch outside and enjoying outdoor play, so let’s hope the weather stays pleasant!

Your child may bring a towel or blanket to sit on during the picnic lunch, and we strongly encourage students bring a brown bag lunch since we will be eating outside. However, bean burritos or cheese & crackers will still be available for purchase in the cafeteria.

Thank you,

Haigh PBIS Committee
