What we did during our week:
Language Arts and Writing: We worked on recognizing and writing the letter I and the letter R. Only a few more letters to go! For writing this week we wrote about our star student. Each week we will make a book about our star student for them to take home on Friday to keep and read with their families.
Also, we read a few Thanksgiving books, then we made Turkey Tracks as we learned some fun facts about Turkeys!
Math: We practiced recognizing, writing and representing numbers 19 and 20.. We practiced some more with addition to five.
Here are our math centers for the month of November:
Counting with “Top the Pie!”
Counting with “Count the Room” (I tape pictures of Thanksgiving related items around the room and they take a recording sheet and walk around to count the images!)
Filling in Missing Numbers with “Caterpillar Counting”
Making 5 with “Flower Petal Addition”
Counting with Tally Marks using clip cards
Science: For weather, we read a few non-fiction texts about weather and spent some time talking about the different types of weather that there can be. They kids were fascinated to learn that tornadoes can spin up to 200 mph. 🙂
Other: We now have big buddies! We have teamed up with Miss Vuichard’s 3rd/4th grade class to do big buddies. We will meet with them on Friday’s to practice reading and do some fun activities! This week they met and interviewed each other. Ask your child about their big buddy!
Book Bags:
Book Bags will be sent home on Monday. There is a note in the bag outlining how these will work. Just to reiterate, these bags come home and come back to school every single day. We use these during small group instruction. Please read these books at home with your child, and have them work on reading independently. We are working on one-to-one finger pointing. This mean that they should be pointing to each word as they read it.
