What have we been up to in Rm. 5?

We’ve been hard at work in room 5 since coming back from winter break. We’ve learned about living/non-living things, what plants need to survive, and we’ve made addition more fun with food!

We continue to practice measuring using non-standard units, addition with manipulatives, writing our numbers, identifying sight words, and letter sounds.

Brrrrrrrr

The weather sure is getting colder! Make sure to send a pair of gloves, a hat, scarf, and warm jacket with your student. We will not be going outside for recess as much now, but just in case. It’s important to still stay active in these winter months!

Community

Don’t forget to take a look at your child’s community scrapbook. Over the past month we have learned about community, especially the Dearborn community-its’ members and their jobs, schools, roads, businesses, laws and people that keep us safe, restaurants and what to do during an emergency.

Look What We’ve Been Up To in Math!

During the month of November, the students have been working on composing and decomposing numbers to 10. Check out our Decomposing Turkeys we made for Thanksgiving! Students had to decompose the numbers 5 and 10 in more than one way. They used paint dabber markers and the same color corresponding feathers to create their turkeys 🙂 Early concepts of addition were at play during this activity!

Gleaner’s Can Drive

Help feed our community! We are asking that parents please donate can goods for Gleaner’s Food Bank. The class who collects the most cans will receive gift cards for each student. Please send in any donations in your child’s backpack.

Thank you for helping feed those in need!

Box Tops!

Please continue to send in box tops for the PTA. This raises money for our school supplies!  Our current contest goes until the last day of October technically but please  to send any BoxTops in by Friday. The next expiration date cycle is on Nov.  1st on most of the BoxTops.

Thank you!

Fall Fest!

The PTA invites you to Fall Fest on October 27th, from 6-8 p.m. This is a fun event for parents and kids. There will be trick or treating, games, and food. See the picture below for more details 🙂 Costumes encouraged!

Halloween
