Autism Acceptance Spirit Week

April 15th-18th

Mindful Monday (April 15th)- To celebrate the beauty in the diverse spectrum of the human mind, wear rainbow and/or tie-dyed clothes to school!

Tuesday, Autism Acceptance Day (April 16th) Love and acceptance go a long way. Wear red to show your support and acceptance of individuals with autism!

What’s Your Passion Wednesday (April 17th) One characteristic of autism can be to show incredibly focused passion for topics of interest. What are you passionate about? Dress up to show something you love! Be creative 🙂 (some examples: pokemon, sports, Harry Potter, art, music, superheroes, animals, etc.)

Sensory Friendly Thursday (April 18th) People with autism often have a variety of sensory sensitivities. Dress up today in your most comfy-clothes (school appropriate sweatpants, pajamas, etc.). Teachers use as much natural light in your classroom instead of fluorescents.

Plant Unit

We have had so much fun learning about plants this past week. We learned about different types of plants, what they need to grow, the life cycle stages, planted our own plants, and sorted fruits/vegetables into groups of the part of plant they come from (seed, stem, leaf, etc.) We even got to taste some of the foods and gave our opinions on what parts of the plants we liked and which ones we didn’t like! Take a look below!

Welcome Spring!

I hope everyone had a relaxing spring break! This week we will keep with the theme of spring and learn about the life cycle of a plant.

Continue to practice sight words and reading books at home 🙂

March is Reading Month

March is Reading Month has come to an end. We have had so much fun reading our favorite stories and informational texts! We also enjoyed having our fifth grade guest readers stop by our room to read us stories. Last Friday was dress like your favorite book character day, so Ms. Lacey dressed up as our room’s favorite, Pete the Cat 🙂 ” love my white shoes, I love my white shoes!”

Life Cycle of a Frog

One of the other life cycles we have focused on this past month was the life cycle of a frog. We created a life cycle craft using different types of candy to sequence the stages 🙂 We used jellybeans for eggs, gummy worms/a jelly bean for the tadpole, and gummy frogs for the froglet and adult frog stages. The kids practiced their fine motor skills, enjoyed a sweet treat, and demonstrated their understanding of the cycle. Take a look below 😀

Keeping with the theme of spring, we will wrap up our informational unit on life cycles and will learn about the life cycle of a plant when we come back from break!

Life Cycle of a Ladybug

This week we have learned about the life cycle of a ladybug. We also read the narrative The Grouchy Ladybug. Students had fun sequencing the stages of a ladybug’s life and painting beautiful ladybugs (see below!)

Our letter of the week was Y

Next week April 1-7 is SPRING BREAK. That means NO SCHOOL. Have a restful and enjoyable break with your families 🙂

Life Cycle Study

This week we have been continuing to learn about life cycles. First, we learned about the life cycle of a frog. Then, we compared the different cycles we have learned about-butterfly, clover, and frog.

Kindergarteners are continuing to compare sets of objects and determine which is less and more. First graders are continuing measuring items with non-standard units like counting cubes. They are all doing a wonderful job with these hands on activities 🙂
