This month in ELA we will continue to practice narrative text features such as author, characters, setting, and plot. We will be focusing on retelling stories using pictures or with prompting from adults, retelling the story in our own words. So far we have read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” This week we will be reading “Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?” Then, we will finish off the month with some Pete the Cat Halloween inspired texts. In addition to narratives, we have been reading/will continue to read poems and nursery rhymes. We will continue to work on Pre-Primer sight words, rhyming, and letter sounds each week.
In math my kindergarteners are continuing basic number concepts to 10-counting objects, pictures, and drawings with one to one correspondence, identifying numbers 1-10, and writing numbers. My first graders will continue to practice addition with visuals and story problems (with the use of pictures). Then, we will begin solving subtraction problems with pictures.
Our studies on force-push and pulls will continue in science, and our lessons on responsibility, following rules, and being a good friend will continue in social studies.
As always, practice sight words and reading at home with your child, and thank you for your continued support! If you have any questions, please contact me via Dojo.
