Fall Party/Calming Corner/Sick Students
Just a reminder that the fall parties will be taking place this week. Students can wear their favorite pajamas to school for the fall party. Little Scholars Fall party will Wednesday October 30th and the Mini Scholars Fall party will be on October 31st.
Students will be learning about the letter H h this week. Students will be learning about Fall and pumpkins this week. ,the number 5 orange. Students in the Little Scholars are working on learning letter sounds. We have started a new song that is entitled The Letter Sound Song, I will post the link to the song. Students have a chart of the letter sounds and follow along as they can look at the letters on the chart. We will also be working on our lacing and cutting skills as well.
Mini Scholars have been doing a great job with counting. We are now going to work on counting to 20 with a new counting song that will be introduced this week I will post a link to the song we will be using. We will also be introducing the fine tip markers for tracing lines and letters.
This week we will be introducing a new center area in the classroom. We will be introducing the calming area. This is an area that will have learning tools that will help students calm down. Many times in a preschool classroom, transitions can be overwhelming for students, and they made need some time to stop and think before they move on to the next activity or they may feel overwhelmed during special activities and may need to take a couple minutes to think and process. The calming corner will be located on the red couch near the cubbies, so students may have some privacy when they are thinking and calming down. We will a calming kit, that will have a list of activities in picture form that can help calm us down. The calming cards have a variety of activities student can choose from, they have suggestions like running in place, drawing a picture, looking at a book, using a squish ball. The calming corner is not a time out or punishment. This is an area to stop and think about what it on our mind or what emotions we are feeling today. Many times as adults we have had one of those days were we have been running behind schedule, forgot something and then came home and realize we did not have our house key or there has been a family emergency. As an adult we also participate in many adult forms of the” calming corner” in various ways, by attending a workout class or going on a walk or having a cup of coffee when listing to music. It’s our way of regrouping as adults. Many students in a preschool setting have not been in a classroom before this year and it is a big change, coming from a setting with one or two siblings to a classroom that can have anywhere from 5-18 classmates at a time. This can be overwhelming for a student. Both the Mini Scholars and Little Scholars have been doing a great job of adjusting, to school , classmates and the classroom rules.
This time of year ,the weather is starting to change and many students are starting to get sick. Please keep your child home if they are not feeling well. If your child has had a fever or has been vomiting it a district policy to keep students’ home for 24-48 hours. If a student comes to school sick many times the germs are spread and other students will catch the illness.
During the school year we wash the tables with bleach water , after table tops, art projects and before and after snack time. We also wash the table at the end of the day and spray Lysol areas of the classroom, to reduce the number of germs in the classroom. We will also be talking to student this week about throwing their tissues in the classroom trash can and washing hands after blowing noses.
Have a great week and we are excited for our first classroom party of the year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Maria and Mrs. Abir
