I am aware that the link to iLearn is not set up properly. This will be fixed in the next 24 hours. Check back here for updates as well as your email, as I plan to send an email with your new enrollment code for the class. Please continue to do research for your final welding project as outlined in an earlier blog. I miss you guys!
End of the semester project
Yes, we are still going to complete them! Many of you have already shared some ideas with me. For those of you who have not given it any thought, here are some guidelines:
- May be done individually or with a partner.
- I have approved groups of 3 when the project is complex enough but just 2 in a group is best.
- Must have a minimum of 5 individual pieces welding together.
- Can be functional, like a small safe, or ornate like a sculpture.
- Seniors will have an adaptive grading scale.
- For ideas, google, ‘small welding projects’. You will find projects for beginners as well as high school students.
Welding 2 weekly assignments
Update from Mr. Miller 3/13/2020
Hi guys! I wanted to update you on the status of current projects that are being worked on as well as the assignments that I will provide for you for the next three weeks. First, upon your return to school, we will pick up right where you left off with the current project. At that time, you will also get revised due dates. Please check this blog every Monday for the next three weeks as I will provide a link to an iLearn page where you will find small assignments for the week. At this time, I am planning to have you watch a short YouTube video related to current or upcoming projects and answer questions related to it. These responses will be collected upon your return just like bell work. I plan to make each assignment worth 20 points formative. I encourage you to check your school email daily as well as the blogs from your other teachers.
Welding 2 update
Today welding 2 students were assigned two review projects, one where they will use the SMAW or stick welding process and the other where they must use the GMAW or MIG welding process. Each project has 4 attached pieces of metal using 4 different weld joints that were learned in Welding 1. Both projects are due by February 22.
Current Welding I projects
Students are learning the stick welding or SMAW process at the current time. They are required to complete small summative projects that demonstrate their ability to weld the following joints: butt, lap, inside corner, outside corner, T. Students generally have five full class periods to complete each project to the best of their ability. The first project to be assigned will be welding a butt joint using 2 pieces of 1/4″ thick steel plate. This project will be completed prior to the end of the first card marking
