House models

Yes, each group is going to be able to finish them and present them as realtors when we return! In the mean time, to help with and to save time writing the presentation, research the following using key words like I have provided. These details will add creativity points to the group grade for the presentation. Keep in mind the model grade and presentation grade are separate.

  1. Specific types of flooring (names/brands)
  2. Specific types of shingles (styles)
  3. Types of exterior siding
  4. Types of windows and doors (style/brand)
  5. Bathroom and kitchen fixtures and appliances. (size/brand)

Update from Mr. Miller 3/13/2020

Hi guys! I wanted to update you on the status of current projects that are being worked on as well as the assignments that I will provide for you for the next three weeks. First, upon your return to school, we will pick up right where you left off with the house model project. At that time, you will also get revised due dates for the completion of the model as well as presentations. Please check this blog every Monday for the next three weeks as I will provide a link to an iLearn page where you will find small assignments for the week. At this time, I am planning to have you watch a short YouTube video related to current or upcoming projects and answer questions related to it. These responses will be collected upon your return just like bell work. I plan to make each assignment worth 20 points formative. I encourage you to check your school email daily as well as the blogs from your other teachers.

Home Technology Update for Semester 2

This semester finds us with a unique mix of both new Home Tech 1 students and veteran Home Tech 2 students in the same first hour.   We are starting the new semester with a  concrete foundation project that makes us of a stud wall models created last semester.  After a one year hiatus, students will again work in small groups to build a scale model of a home designed by one of the group members, The group is then required to present the model to the class in much the same way a realtor would show a home to a client.

Electrical , plumbing,  as well as HVAC systems will be covered this semester.

Architectural Design

Students are presently drawing scale floor plans of their own dream house.  Most designs are well over 2400 square feet.  Students first sketched their plan taking into account the four areas of a home: living, sleeping, eating, and service.  These plans will be due on or before 9/25 with a point value of 65 summative points.  I hope to be able to grade most floor plans in class with the student present, providing immediate feedback.

Model Home Building

Students started the year off designing and drawing out a scale floor plan of their dream home that had to include essential living spaces.  In small groups, students are now constructing a  3D cutaway model of a home.  These should be finished up by early November.  Groups will then have to present their model to the class, in much the way a realtor shows a house to clients.
