7th Grade Career Cruising
Sometime between next week and the end of the semester, I will introduce 7th graders to Career Cruising.
8th Grade Career Cruising
Before the holiday, I was able to introduce 2nd,3rd 4th,and 5th hour science students to Career Cruising. They have their username and password, so they can now access the website at anytime. I will be pulling 1st hour science and DCMST students from their electives this week.
They will be visiting this website throughout high school. Each time gather more information on careers, college, and scholarships. AVID students will also be returning to Career Cruising to do additional planning
Career Cruising
All 8th grader will be visiting the Computer Lab to begin further planning for the future. While students are at this website, they will take a short 39 question interest assessment. This will provide them with a list of careers that reflect these interests. This website will be used throughout their stay in school. It is also something that will transfer to any school using this program.
They can explore these careers, looking at working conditions, education, wages, employment future, etc. . It also has information about colleges, universities, and scholarships.
It is extremely important that students start thinking about their future, what they want to do, how are they going to achieve it, what is standing in their way, and how they are going to overcome it.
Over the next four to five years, they along with their counselor will be looking at this plan, revising, and adding to it. The goal being, to graduate ready to go to college, a certificate program, or work.
8/9 PSAT
April 13th and 14th have been set as dates for the exam. Every 8th grader will be taking it. Please refer to the previous post for the link to their web site. Student should familiarize themselves with this style of test. There are many free web sites that have practice tests. Teachers will also be presenting sample problems in class.
P/T/S Contracts
At conferences, when report cards were passed out, some of them had an attached contract. The purpose of these was to first make students and parents aware of the deficiencies their child has in mathematics and/or language arts. They also listed measures that the school, parents, and students can implement to overcome them. The NWEA will be administered again in January and May. We appreciate the timely return of these contracts, signed by you and your child. If you did not attend conferences, they are being mailed to you. Please watch for them. Together we can create a bright and rewarding 2015/16 school year.
