Box tops and Book fair!
Hi everyone!
Just a quick reminder to follow up with the note that went home: Our day to view the book fair (viewing ONLY) is tomorrow, and our day to buy at the book fair is Friday.
Also, if you have box tops, please send them in by Thursday in a plastic bag, bundled in groups of 10 or 50. Please label how many are in your bag.
One more thing– our concert is this Thursday! Students will meet in my room at 6:45, and the concert begins at 7.
If your student forgot to copy the spelling words down today, they are available on iLearn under week 28.
Thanks!
Week of February 11
Hi everyone!
A couple important reminders for this week….Thursday is a half day and Friday there is no school.
There is also no school next Monday!
Due to the short week, we will be focusing on language/grammar activities in class, rather than spelling words.
Students received a list of names today to use if they would like to pass out valentine cards during our celebration on Thursday. We will be making valentine mailboxes using cereal boxes, so thank you for sending those in! We still need a few more.
Please let me know if you have any questions. 🙂
Assembly next week….
A note from the PTA on the Barn Hill Preserve Assembly next week:
“Permission slips MUST be signed and turned in to the teacher by Monday, February 11th for your student to be able to attend. No exceptions! All money towards a purchase is due with permission slip by Monday. Please post on your blog.
Thank you,
PTA”
I have attached the permission slip below if you need an extra. This paper MUST be turned in and signed by Monday in order for your child to attend. Thank you!!
Also, please make sure your child is caught up to Lesson 21 on Zearn this weekend. This will help them with the concepts in class.
Week of February 4
Hi everyone!
Wow, what a short week we had last week! This week, our focus is on getting back into the swing of things. We have been out of our routine now due to NWEA testing and snow days, so I am hoping this week things can slow down and get back to normal. 🙂
A couple things I wanted to let you know:
Student Council will be having a pencil and eraser sale tomorrow for 4th grade. Each item costs 25 cents, and we ask that students do not bring in more than $1 so that we can ensure there is enough for all grades to purchase!
Valentine’s Day is next week. Students will be making a Valentine’s Day mailbox IN CLASS using an empty cereal box. If you could send in any empty cereal boxes as you finish them at home, that would be great. If you have more than one, please send in whatever you have, as I’m sure other students could use one. We will decorate them next Thursday in class.
Spelling words are in the students’ planners. They are also available online under week 19 on iLearn. We continue to work on long division strategies in math. We are also learning about energy in science, and working on building some roller cars! In reading, we are getting back into the swing of reading groups after all our testing and days off.
Have a great week!
Field Trip Update
Hi everyone!
I hope you all have enjoyed your days off! Hopefully you spent time with family staying warm and cuddled up with a good book. 🙂
As of now, as long as school is open, we WILL be attending our field trip to the Underground Railroad Museum tomorrow. The walk from the bus into the building and back is very short and we will be inside the whole time. However, please still plan to dress warm- coats, gloves, hats. We will be able to take off our winter gear once we get inside. Please also remember to bring a bag lunch!!
We will also be doing our PBIS reward for January on Friday, so if your child would like to bring in a board game (no electronics!), please feel free!
Have a great night.
School work for our days off!
Hi everyone,
There will be no school tomorrow! The district will make a decision about Thursday later this week.
To keep our students’ brains fresh and working, I am sending home Lesson 18 math homework and reading group questions for the next couple days. They should also be caught up through Lesson 19 on Zearn.
For those who were absent today, I have attached the math below. Thank you and stay warm!!Module 3 Lesson 17 18 Homework
Zearn
I hope everyone is enjoying their half day!
I wanted to take a minute to remind everyone that students should be working on Zearn at home. Zearn is the online component to our new math program. We are finding that students who stay about a lesson ahead of where we are in class when working on Zearn will do better because they recognize some of the concepts already.
Right now, students should be around Module 3 Lesson 15 on Zearn. This is a fun, interactive way to help students do better in math. Please check with your child what lesson they are on and encourage them to get caught up!!
Thank you.
End of 2nd Card Marking
Good morning!
It is hard to believe that this Friday, January 18 is the end of the second card marking already. Therefore, we have a busy week with some assessments to finish up!
Math:
Today, January 15, we will be taking our mid-module assessment. The focus is on multiplication problems (2 digit by 1 digit and 3 digit by 1 digit) as well as multiplication word problems. Our next focus will be on 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication problems and long division. Please keep practicing multiplication facts at home with your child so that they are successful with the bigger problems in class.
Social Studies:
Tomorrow, January 16, we will have our Unit 3 Social Studies test. Students worked on a review yesterday in class, and they can also review playing Kahoot at home if they would like to! The link to our Kahoot is Unit 3 Kahoot.
Reading:
As we finish up this card marking, we will be finishing our current reading group books, and moving on to our next books. I will also be progress monitoring and assessing the students individually to get their current reading level.
Finally, NWEA! We took our math NWEA last week, and will be taking the reading NWEA this week. Please keep encouraging your children to focus, do their best, and get a good night’s sleep followed by a healthy breakfast!
I look forward to seeing everyone’s progress! Have a great week.
Welcome Back!
Happy New Year and Welcome Back!
I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break.
A few things for this week: We will begin NWEA testing tomorrow and take our 4 tests over the next three weeks. Please make sure your children come to school focused, after eating a healthy breakfast and having a good night’s sleep. Encourage them to do their best and take their time!
A permission slip went home for the Underground Railroad Museum today. We will be taking our field trip on February 1.
Next Friday, January 18 we have a half day.
Monday, January 21 we have no school.
Tuesday, January 22 is also a half day.
Thank you for your support and patience as we work out the details of our new traffic flow here at Howard! Your students should have brought information home for you, but please let me know if you need another copy.
Have a great week!
