Create a rhythm!

Hello students! Here is a link to this week’s lesson for students in second, third, fourth and fifth grade. You will be playing and creating rhythm patterns using quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests. Click the link below and follow steps 1, 2 and 3. Next week we will continue with the rest of the steps. You can clap or pat the rhythms, or play them on any instrument that you have at home! If you don’t have an instrument…make one out of household items (be sure to ask your parents permission first). Two pencils make excellent rhythm sticks, for example. Be creative and have fun!
Please let me know when you have completed your assignment by leaving a comment here on the blog, or emailing me a screenshot of the rhythm you created at rafferb@dearbornschools.org.

4th and 5th Grade Note Review

Hello fourth and fifth graders! I hope that you are singing, playing your recorders, dancing and enjoying this time with your families. This week let’s review the notes on the music staff.

Click this link to go to the MusicPlay Website and play a note review game:

chttp://Musicplayonline.com

Scroll down the page until you see the Games bar, and click “All Games”.

Scroll down to game number 4, “Note Name Memory” and click Play.

Play level one and then move on to level two. Remember, if a note is on a line, think Every Good Boy Does Fine. If a note is on a space, spell F A C E! Remember to start from the bottom line and space of the music staff to use these tips!

When you are finished please complete this google form:

Recorder Practice

Hello Fourth and Fifth grade students! This is a great time to practice recorder. Please talk to your parents about when and where in the house is the best time to practice before you begin. Here is a reminder of steps to take when learning a new song:

  1. Speak the rhythm using “ta”, “ti-ti”, etc.
  2. Speak and clap the rhythm.
  3. Say/sing the note letter names in rhythm.
  4. Say/sing the note letter names in rhythm while fingering the notes.

When learning to play a new song begins playing it slowly while maintaining a steady beat. Gradually increase the tempo (play it faster) each time you practice.

Here are some videos to get you back on track!

Over in the Meadow

I miss singing this song with you, boys and girls! Join along with me and share with your families.

And if you would like, draw a picture to illustrate one of the verses. For example, draw a picture of a mama turtle and her baby turtle digging, or a mama owl and her eight owls winking. Have your parents snap a picture of your drawing and email it to me at rafferb@dearbornschools.org. Happy music making!
