Wow, 2015 already. There is so much going on…During the month of January we will be taking the NWEA again. This is the second time this test will be given, and then again in May. In February, we will be taking the WIDA, which is the new bilingual test. This test assesses your child in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students must pass all parts. In March, the MEAP TESTS will be taken. Finally, the NWEA, again in May. I know this is a lot of testing, however, it will does identify the strengths and weaknesses of your child. This does not include the weekly Spelling Tests, or the unit tests in Science, Math and Social Studies. School is getting to be a pretty serious business. Your continued support is greatly appreciated. Please help your child by making sure they get enough rest, eat healthy, and get exercise regularly.  Also, it is crucial for them to do their work daily at school and at home.

We have started taking the NWEA, which is an assessment that replaces SRI and Star Math. The students are testing in Language, Reading, Math, and Science. We will take them 3 times a year, beginning, middle, and end. Until we finish these tests, work may be less than usual. However, we should be on our “normal” schedule soon. In the mean time, students should be reading 20 minutes every night and writing about their book. Also, they should be studying Spelling words, and practicing addition and subtraction facts. Please remember to sign their planners every night. Thanks!

Students were given new 3rd grade Spelling Words. The test is on Friday. Please study with your child daily. Also, some students were given words from the Kindergarten, first and second grade lists that they still don’t know.  Please try to work with them until they have mastered these words. Students need to read daily and write daily. They need to practice reading and you will see them gradually improve their comprehension and fluency.

Happy Monday…

It’s a short week, due to Spring Break, but a very busy week. We have a Spelling Test on Thursday this week. Also, we have the District Social Studies Assessment on Thursday. The study guide went home today. On Wednesday, we have our Unit Test on Geometry. Yes, there are a lot of assessments, but I felt better to have the assessment while it is still fresh in their minds.

Reading Worksheet – 4 multiple questions – highlight answers

Paragraph on Compare/Contrast on Domestic Animals

Math Worksheet on Geometry
