It’s October…

We have one more NWEA test on Tuesday, and then I will be sending you the results. Please take time to review them. It will give you a really good indication of where your child is and how much work we need to do. I will need your support to accomplish the expectations of third grade.

I would like to remind you that third grade is a transitional year. We try to get students to be more independent. We want students to be responsible to write homework in their planner. It is hard to let them do this, but I have found students will adjust to this big step.

Spelling Words are introduced every Monday. Your child will have an activity with their words every day. Tests will be on Friday. Also, everyday, we have lessons in Language and Math. On Fridays, we have a quiz in each Language and Math. The quiz on Friday are questions that they have seen all week. Please remind your child to put their best effort into these activities.

We have been working on time. Some students are still struggling with the clock. We will be advancing to elapsed time, which most students find difficult. Asking them what time will it be in an hour, or what time was it 15 minutes ago, or if we leave at this time and arrive at this time, how long did it take to get there? This is difficult, but it is the higher level thinking skills that students are expected to have.

If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to email or write in your child’s planner. I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Thanks…Have a good week.

TGIF…Thank goodness it’s Friday!

We made it through our second week of school.  I would like to “Thank” all the students and parents that attended Open House. It was quite successful and I was delighted to meet so many parents.

This week we started assessing students in Reading with the NWEA. Next week, we will take the Math Assessment. Following Math, will be Language and Science. It is important students get a good night sleep and a good breakfast. These tests take a long time, so just encourage them to do their best. More importantly, is that this is a starting point. All students need to make one year’s growth, so we have a lot of work to do.

Planners will be arriving soon. You will need to sign it everyday. Please feel free to write notes to me at any time. Have a good weekend.
