APUSH Onward
APUSH from April 19th Onward
I hope everyone is doing well.
Pay very close attention to the following. We are going to be doing things a little bit differently than the regular classes and what they tell you, but the grading will be the same:
Assignments:
-All major assignments (so far. I might add more) are posted on iLearn. Most due dates will be Wednesdays and Saturdays. But do pay attention for some assignments that are due on different days. This includes critiques. Again everything with directions and due dates are already showing on iLearn. It is your job to keep up on it and properly prepare.
-I will have videos/handouts, etc. before the assignments for the week that you should read through/watch/take notes as they will help you do the assigned work. I will not be checking if you do this but as you know in an AP class and really anything in real life, the people who do the best are prepared and are prepared when there’s not money or points attached to it.
-I will send Remind texts if anything changes.
-Always look at iLearn to keep up
Google Hangouts:
-Part of your grade will also be attending Google Hangout sessions. This is where I can show you where the work is, answer any questions, show you how to do some of the work etc.
The invites will be sent to your student emails. You must keep up to date.
Because of issues with DCMST, and the fact that APUSH is a more involved class than most, you will have a REQUIRED Google Hangout on:
-Tuesday 3:15-4:15ish. This is for all APUSH hours (2nd, 3rd, and 5th).
-This can be a chance to see if everyone is on point. Answer any major questions, explain what the next assignments will be etc.
For the required hangouts you need to comment with your name in the chat to sign in
Optional Google Hangouts for all APUSH classes will be
-Wednesdays at 3:15
-Thursdays at 3:15
Here I can go over some content and DBQ practice in a lecture format. I have some really good materials here.
These will be recorded as well.
Grades:
Here is what they say grading will be like for the district:
- Students who do the following will earn the grade of A recorded:
- Engage in at least 75% of the remote lessons and hangouts.
- Submit and earn a passing grade on at least 75% of the assignments.
- Students who do the following will earn the grade of G which awards credit:
- Engage in 60-74% of the remote lessons and hangouts.
- Submit and earn a passing grade on at least 60-74% of the assignments.
- Students who do the following will earn the grade of N which is no credit given:
- Engage in less than 60% of the remote lessons and hangouts.
- Submit and earn a passing grade on less than 60% of the assignments.
Check comments in student connect for feedback if you did turn something but was not good.
So here is what this means. Your grade from before is gone. You have 3 grade options now.
To get an A:
-You have to do 75% of the work and it has to actually be decent. When we do our DBQs that means you must get at least a 5/10 in order to achieve this grade. From my understanding colleges will take this as an A.
I will not count work that is only partly done, has obviously horrible answers, or seem like they are plagiarized or copied from other students.
To get a G:
-This is passing. This is if you do and complete 60%-74.99% of the work.
To get an N:
-This is failing. This means if you do nothing from here on out or do less than 60% of the work. This means night school/summer school.
Check gradebooks for comments. Keep reading to the next page.
Other Review:
Below the required assignments on iLearn are two categories called “Hardcore Review for Shortened Exam” and “Extra Stuff to Prepare for the Exam”. In there are the resources you should be looking through and reviewing in order to best complete the required assignments for the exam.
Circumstances:
If there is anything getting in the way of you doing the work (illness, economics, technological, etc.) please let me know! We can’t help you if we don’t know what is going on.
