Welcome to Second Grade!

Welcome to Second Grade!

Dear Parents,                                                                                                September 2017

Hello! I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Kerry Sabellico and I am honored to be your child’s teacher this year.  This is my 18th year of teaching at Snow School!

I believe that communication is the key to a great parent-teacher relationship.  I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time.  You can send me a note, email me at makowsk1@dearbornschools.org , or call me and leave a message at 313-827-6350, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

This year I will be posting all important notes and reminders on my blog page.  You can access the blog at https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/makowsk1/.  You will find a copy of this blog page address inside your child’s homework folder which will go home daily.  Please sign up for my blog as soon as possible, so that you will receive reminder emails to check important information that has been posted.

Some important things to know about our classroom:

Homework Folder– Every day your child will take his/her Homework Folder home.  Please take the time to check this folder every day as it will contain homework assignments, important announcement, tests to be signed and returned to school, and/or completed and checked assignments.  It is VERY important that your child brings this folder back to school every day.

Student Planner-Your child will receive a student planner.  Each child will write down his/her homework in the student planner along with any important reminders for parents.  A parent/guardian MUST sign the planner every day.  This ensures that a parent has seen what your child has for homework and makes sure that homework is completed and returned to school.  I do not send homework home on Fridays!

Arrival/Departure Location-As a 2nd grader, students are to line up on the upper grade playground located near Houston Street.  All 2nd -5th grade students will enter at door 11.  This is the same door that students will be dismissed at.

Absences/Leaving school for appointments-Attendance is very important so please make sure your child arrives to school on time.  Also, please make sure that you call the school office at 827-6250 to notify us of any absences during the school day.  Students cannot be released from school until they have been signed out at the office by an adult.  Upon return to school, you must bring your child to the office and sign him/her in.

Birthdays-We enjoy celebrating birthdays so please let me know at least a day in advance if you plan on bringing in a special treat for your child to share with the class.  The ideal time would be towards the end of the day, but will vary depending on our class schedule.  Also, in order not to hurt any child’s feelings, please do not distribute party invitations in our classroom unless every child in our classroom is invited to the party.  Otherwise, please distribute invitations in a different manner outside of the school environment.

Water Bottles-I do encourage students to bring water bottles into the classroom.  Students should bring their bottles home a couple times a week to be washed and sanitized.  Please make sure the bottle has a working cap and no leaks before sending it to school.

Once again, I am very excited to be your child’s teacher this year.  I’m looking forward to having a wonderful and successful school year with both you and your child!

Sincerely,

Kerry Sabellico
