This year we are doing Open House a bit differently! We have created a Bitmoji Open House. Take a minute to check it out, (it is really cool)!

SNOW SCHOOL BITMOJI OPEN HOUSE

Today students will complete the Mid-Module 1 Review and tomorrow, they will complete the Mid-Module Assessment. They can use the review and problems from Lessons 1-8 in their Learn and Succeed books to review.

Dear Parents/Guardians of Snow Elementary,

It is with great pleasure and an honor to serve you as the new principal of Snow Elementary School beginning October 1st of this year. I look forward to meeting all of you and working alongside the community.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich legacy of success and so many points of pride. I have dedicated my career to the students of Dearborn for the last 16 years. I started my career as an elementary classroom teacher then moved on to an elementary resource teacher/instructional coach at Salina intermediate. I then moved on to be a middle school bilingual resource teacher and have spent the last four years as Assistant principal at Woodworth Middle School. I am eager to dedicate my skills to the Snow community.

As all of us embark on the upcoming school year we do so for the first time with high levels of uncertainty due to the current international crisis we all know as Covid-19. This has affected all of us in so many ways. Our students and community as a whole have had to encounter many hardships as a result. However, this will not deter our mission to make this school year the best one ever. I plan on working with parents, teachers, students and the entire Snow community to ensure that our students are safe and learning at high levels. Together we will continue to provide experiences that are rigorous, relevant and with relationships based on trust to prepare them for their future endeavors. As your new principal it is important to me to greet everyone who enters the school with the utmost respect. I have an open door policy and value every stakeholder’s opinion. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any concerns you may have or any points of pride you would like to share.

I look forward to our work together in the years to come and establishing a team committed to the Snow community. Please stay safe and have a great school year.

Sincerely,

Mohammad Abdelfattah

Snow Elementary Principal

This year we will still take the NWEA but it will be done at home. Students will be required to be online with me while they take it. We will test from 8:55 am to 10:30 am Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. I will inform you of next week’s schedule but it will most likely be the same.

I’ve attached a Parent Letter that has some links from NWEA to help you better understand how this will work.

Starting Wednesday, please:

  • Make sure your child has had a good breakfast and taken a bathroom break before the 8:55 ZOOM Meeting.
  • Have them login to the meeting using the normal ZOOM link promptly at 8:55.
  • While students are testing, they will need to keep their microphone and video camera off. This is being done to preserve bandwidth. Communication will take place via the ZOOM chat feature.
  • They will not need a parent/guardian with them while they test (in fact we discourage it). You are free to carry on with your day 🙂
  • Have your phone nearby, if your child is not working, I will call you and ask you to check on them. We only have until October 9th to complete the test so we must use our time wisely!
  • If you need to contact me during the test for any reason, the best way will be via email.

Thank you for all of your support this year. The students have really done a great job of adapting to this new way of learning and I am very thankful for all of you!

Happy Monday!  Here are this week’s announcements:

  • DRA Testing will continue this week.
  • ZOOM meetings are at 8:55, 10:30, and 12:25 daily. Attendance is required so please make sure your child is online at those times.  If you have a problem getting online, please email me immediately so I can excuse their absence 🙂
  • Specials started last week.  Students have access to their Specials Teachers’ Classrooms through Schoology.
  • We will begin NWEA testing next week.  I will send more information out this week.
  • Please check your child’s Schoology to make sure they are keeping up with their work.  I will not be able to contact parents daily about missing work but Schoology will allow you to see if your child has assignments that are not turned in.

Have a great week!

Hey 5th grade families!!

We will be administering the DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) to students beginning Tuesday, September 15th.  The test will be administered, in person, here at Snow School in our classroom, Room 1.  Since safety is our top priority, we will only be testing 3 students at a time during each time block.  Students are required to wear a mask, and we will remain socially distanced, 6 ft apart.

If a student has a school Chromebook we are asking that they please BRING IT WITH THEM, and that it is FULLY CHARGED. This will help us greatly, thank you!

SIGN-UP INSTRUCTIONS:

Please select a time on our Sign Up Genius form that your child can come in to take the test.  Please type in your name, and your student’s name, in the available slot.

When you arrive at Snow, park in the lot and walk your child to door 10. There you will be greeted by a Snow staff member who will check your child in, have you sign the Covid consent form and answer any questions you may have. They will then walk your child to their classroom. Parents will also need to pick their child up at door 10. Students cannot be released unless a parent is present. Please note that parents will not be entering the school.  If you would like to wait for your child you may do so, in your vehicle, outside the school.  The total testing time will be approximately 45 minutes. We respectfully ask that you please adhere to your scheduled drop-off and pick-up time in order to keep everyone on track.

If you are hesitant to allow your child to come to school, please email me at majetir@dearbornschools.org and we will make alternate virtual accommodations. You do not need to sign up for a time slot.

Thank you so much for your support as we continue to navigate uncharted waters, and strive to provide the best education for our students.

Good Morning!  I just wanted to update you on a few things…

Specials will start soon, I will send information on how they work as soon as I get it.

ZOOM Meetings are at 8:55, 10:30, and 12:25 daily.  Attendance is required so please make sure your child is online at those times.  If you have a problem getting online, please email me immediately so I can excuse their absence 🙂

Starting today, I will be requiring all students to have their cameras on during ZOOM meetings.  If desired, there are backgrounds available in ZOOM that students are welcome to use.  Here is a video that explains how to do this.

Information will be sent out soon regarding DRA and iReady diagnostic administation.  I will be scheduling times for students to come in to the classroom, however, if you are not comfortable with that, we will find a way to work virtually.

I am so pround of the students!  They have embraced this weird start to the school year with a great attitude and are making the best of it.  Take time to give them a pat on the back for all of their effort 🙂

Here is a help video that may fix your ZOOM issues. The Tech said that this may have to be repeated each time you login [hopefully that is not the case].
