Classroom Events

Curriculum:

Math:

  • 5th Grade – Students will continue to divide divide multi-digit dividends by multi-digit divisors. They will transition to dividing decimals by multiples of ten and basic facts.
  • 4th Grade – Students will transition to solving division problems with remainders without using the area model. They will also begin using and understanding factors to define prime and composite.

Reading:

5th: Students will take their first Unit Assessment on Tuesday. We will review on Monday, and students can use the Quizlet and their Ready Common Core Workbooks to study (uploaded Google Classroom).

The rest of the week will be spent comparing and contrasting characters in a drama (play).

4th: Students will make inferences about informational text based on key details and examples from the text to better understand the author’s ideas about the topic.

Writing – Students will continue working on their first PBW (process based writing) assignment which is about the Tiny Water Bear. Ask them about it, it’s fascinating!

Social Studies:

  • 4th Grade – The first unit will focus on how the United States can be divided into different regions based on physical and human characteristics.
  • 5th Grade – Students will be joining Mr. DeSantis’ class for Social Studies this year.  Their first unit of study will be an introduction to the Constitution and rights of citizens.

Science:

  • 4th Grade – The first unit will focus on Energy.  Students will learn how it is transferred, converted, and related to the speed of an object.
  • 5th Grade – Students will be joining Ms. Sherlock’s class for Science this year.  Their first unit of study will be the Structure and Properties of Matter.

Spelling:

All classroom spelling lists, activities, and tests will be online this year.  Students will be given spelling words on Monday each week and tested on Friday.   Please see this document to learn how to view your child’s grades.  Students are expected to study their words at home each night.  Here are some ideas on how to practice words with your child,  Spelling Practice Ideas(please note, the directions on it do not apply).
