Classroom Events

Curriculum:

Math:

  • 5th Grade – Students will continue to work on multiplying multi-digit whole numbers and fully transition to the standard algorithm. Please practice with your child at home and encourage them to work on ZEARN as well.
  • 4th Grade – Students will work with multiplicative comparisons word problems, using area and perimeter formulas in real-world contexts, and multiplying by multiples of 10 using an area model.

Reading :

  • 5th Grade – Students will make inferences about a text and support with evidence.
  • 4th Grade – Students explain procedures, ideas, or concepts in a technical text, including what happened and why, based on specific information in the text.

Writing – Our first writing assignment will focus on Narrative writing.  Students will create their own story based on a Big Top Circus theme.

Social Studies:

  • 4th Grade – The first unit will focus on how the United States can be divided into different regions based on physical and human characteristics.
  • 5th Grade – Students will be joining Mr. DeSantis’ class for Social Studies this year.  Their first unit of study will be an introduction to the Constitution and rights of citizens.

Science:

  • 4th Grade – The first unit will focus on Energy.  Students will learn how it is transferred, converted, and related to the speed of an object.
  • 5th Grade – Students will be joining Ms. Sherlock’s class for Science this year.  Their first unit of study will be the Structure and Properties of Matter.

Spelling:

All classroom spelling lists, activities, and tests will be online this year.  Students will be given spelling words on Monday each week and tested on Friday.   Please see this document to learn how to view your child’s grades.  Students are expected to study their words at home each night.  Here are some ideas on how to practice words with your child,  Spelling Practice Ideas(please note, the directions on it do not apply).
