We hope you all had a joyous holiday season and wish you the happiest New Year! We wanted to share some highlights from December in the classroom. Many of you have expressed interest in what the children are doing and learning in the classroom, which is wonderful! There is a tab on the homepage of the blog that will direct you to our lesson plans that are posted weekly. We want this information to be as accessible to everyone as possible. Please let us know how we can help you with this. As your children start showing us their interests more and more, these lesson plans might change. We want the children to be as involved in planning what we learn as the teachers are. In December, we have made many last-minute changes to follow what the children express interest in. Color mixing and our mini color wheels were their idea entirely! We love having such an innovative classroom full of learners.
In January, we are looking forward to hopefully having some parents join us in the classroom. We are watching covid numbers carefully and will make decisions about classroom helpers based on what the district decides and what we feel is safest for the kids. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope we’ll be able to provide more of these opportunities moving forward.
We have really been working on letter sounds and letter recognition. We’ll be labeling some classroom items in the upcoming weeks according to their letter sounds. Make sure you ask your child about this! We will be working on letters J, D, P, and B. We would like to be able to do pajamas and pancakes for letter P! We will let you know if we can make this possible. In January your child will also have a hearing and vision screening test provided by the Health Department. This is a wonderful opportunity and often helps identify how we can support your child best. I’ll be sure to post when exactly this will be. As we transition back into the classroom after two wonderful weeks with your child at home, your child might be feeling uneasy about separating from you. Please let us know how we can offer added emotional support for your child. The first week back will mostly be falling back into our routine! We have missed our friends so much! We can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow.
As always thank you for your involvement and support.
