In October we focused on fall! We used observational skills to notice signs of the changing seasons. We have been discussing the changing leaves and the changing weather. Most recently, we have started discussing temperature. We cut open pumpkins and were able to play with the seeds and the pulp, and you may have seen our artistic recreation of what we saw inside. We made scarecrows in our sensory table by stuffing clothes with hay and drawing on paper plates for the head. We had such a wonderful time at our Halloween celebration. We loved seeing the children in their costumes!
In November we will be switching our focus. We’ll be talking about our families and who lives in our house, friends, and being thankful. Please feel free to send me a family picture if you did not already so your child can show the class. We’re finishing up our straight-line letters, I and T, and then we’ll be introducing curved lines so that we can learn letters C and U. We’ll also be doing some handwriting practice with our names!
The children are doing a wonderful job with their classroom jobs and with cleaning up their belongings during the day. They have been very responsible with their folders and with the books they were able to take home. Our next focus will be dressing for cold weather. We’ll be practicing getting dressed and undressed for outdoors independently. Please dress your child for outdoor play in all weather. As it gets colder, we will decide whether we will have indoor or outdoor gross motor play.
Looking forward:
We will be making a friendship snack mix for Thanksgiving. Every child will contribute something to our mix and then they will be able to scoop some out and take it home for Thanksgiving break. This is a wonderful activity to help build a sense of community in the classroom. We’ll be posting more information this week on the classdojo about this activity.
We’re having a wonderful time with your children. Thank you for your involvement and support.
