We have had a great first month!
Your children have been busy learning and discovering in our classroom together. In September we focused on getting to know one another. We have been working hard at taking turns, being respectful of toys and books in the classroom, and being good friends. We have also been working on familiarizing ourselves with the classroom schedule. The kids are loving our time on the playground. I think it’s their favorite part of the school day! Most recently we have been discussing apples. We tasted a green and red apple slice and talked about sour versus sweet tastes. We also opened our sensory/discovery table and had the opportunity to make apple pies with oatmeal, small apples, and cooking utensils.
In October we’re looking forward to maintaining our fall themes. We will explore changing leaves, pumpkins, farm animals, and Halloween. We have been using our senses to identify the weather outside and have started discussing the days of the week during circle time. Ask your child about our calendar friend Wormy! We have also introduced daily jobs: line leader, caboose, calendar helper, weather helper, placemats, snack helper, and door holder. This past week we introduced our friend Mat Man. Mat Man is going to help us learn proper pencil grasp for handwriting and his pieces will help us build capital letters! In the following weeks we will be working on letters L, F, E, and H.
Looking forward, your children will be getting “daily five” book bags for their books from home. They’ll have the choice to take these home on Friday for the weekend. In the upcoming weeks, we will start allowing them to take a classroom book home for the week on Fridays. Please let me know if this is something you’re not interested in having your child participate in. The books are very short and could be read by a parent, family member, older sibling, etc. This will help your child model reading skills and is generally very exciting!
We are having such a wonderful time with your children. Thank you for your involvement and support.
