What does a School Social Worker Do?

School Social Workers help students with different challanges in schools. Students can struggle with mental health issues or stresses from home that can lead to feelings of being overwhelmed. Students who feel overwhelmed struggle to contol their feelings and emotions which has a drect impact on their behavior academic success in the classroom. School Social Workers help and support students identify and address issues and find solutions to overcome the idenfied obstacles.

Food Assistance:

  • Dearborn Public Schools is offering free pickup lunch and breakfast for students while school is closed: Pick ups will run Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-12pm at Fordson, Edsel Ford, Dearborn High School, McCollough-Unis, Salina Intermediate, and Woodworth Middle School. 
    • Mondays, students will receive breakfast and lunch for Monday and Tuesday
    • Wednesdays, students will receive breakfast and lunch for Wednesdays and Thursdays
    • Fridays, students will receive breakfast and lunch for Friday, Saturday and Sunday

  • Dial 2-1-1 from any phone to be connected to a list of statewide resources for everything from food and diapers to rental assistance and bus fare. You can also search their online database at https://www.mi211.org
  • ACCESS:Providing free grab and go meals to children 18 years and under 3 times a week. Children will be provided with two meals on Mondays and Wednesdays, and with one meal on Friday 3PM-5PM at each of these locations: 2651 Saulino Ct. Dearborn 48120 & 16427 W. Warren Detroit 48228.

  • COVID-19 Community Economic Relief Fund
    • Assistance with bills, rent, and food
    • 1-866-211-9966 and provide a zip code; you will be given a list of local agencies to provide assistance

Internet Access

  • Comcast: Offering free internet access to low-income families
  • AT&T: Offering free internet access to new customers for two months and low-income households can continue to subscribe for $10/month.
  • Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription and at any service level up to 100 Mbps. To enroll call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student household.
