Newsletter for the Week of November 7th

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • On Monday we had therapy group with Mr. Joe and Mrs. Gallery. We made pumpkin pie cups with graham crackers, whipped cream, and pumpkin flavored pudding!
  • We watched videos about different shapes and talked about the shapes we need to make a scarecrow. After we made our own scarecrows and practiced cutting with adapted scissors.
  • We practiced counting with the poem, “Along Comes Mr. Scarecrow.”
  • The children colored in their journals.
  • We worked on our alphabet book. We are on the letter “I” so we used insects to decorate the page.
  • We read a book about being leaders and talked about how each of us can be leaders in the classroom.
  • The students painted a fall tree using corks to stamp red, yellow, and orange on for leaves.
  • In art we played with shaving cream!

 

REMINDERS

Late start: Wednesday, November 16th.

School starts one hour later than usual.

Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

 

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Continue reading

Newsletter for the Week of October 31st

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • On Halloween we had ghost shaped pancakes for breakfast!
  • In the afternoon on Halloween we went trick or treating at ASC. It was so fun to see everyone dressed up in their costumes.
  • The students drew in their journals.
  • We practiced counting with the poem “Along Comes Mr. Scarecrow.”
  • We read a story about what animal do in the fall and then made a squirrel craft with leaves for a tail.
  • The children painted at the easel with paint brushes made from pine tree needles.
  • We practiced tearing paper for a crow craft that is hanging in the hallway.
  • The students listened to songs about fall colors in music.
  • We practiced counting objects to three on the white board.

No school on Tuesday, November 8th.

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • On Monday, we had therapy group with Mr. Joe and Mrs. Gallery. We explored Halloween sensory bowls.  We felt eye balls (peeled grapes), monster teeth (candy corn), brains (spaghetti), and witch fingers (carrot sticks).
  • The students made fizzing pumpkins during a science activity. Each student scooped baking soda into a pumpkin container and then squeezed orange vinegar on top to make it fizz and bubble!
  • We read “The Five Little Bats” and worked on counting and number recognition (1-5).
  • The students stood next to a stack of pumpkins and we counted the pumpkins to see how many pumpkins tall everyone is.
  • We read “It’s Pumpkin Day, Mouse!” and talked about the different emotions of the pumpkins in the book (happy, sad, silly, surprised). After reading, we marble painted pumpkins and gave them facial expressions to match the different emotions we read about.
  • The children painted mini pumpkins.
  • The students decorated their trick or treat bags for our field trip on Monday.
  • We read “Go Away Big Green Monster” with props.
  • We made a pudding cup monster snack.

 

REMINDERS

  • We are going trick or treating at ASC on Monday. If you would like your child to wear a costume please send in it their back pack.  We will change after lunch.  If you child does not have a costume we have one they can borrow. 🙂
  • Friday, November 4th is a half day. Dismissal is at 11:45.
  • No school on Tuesday, November 8th.
  • Please turn in your preferred time sheet for parent/teacher conferences as soon as you can. I will be sending home confirmations soon.

Newsletter for the Week of October 17th

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • The children explored the inside of a pumpkin!
  • We read a book about colors and then talked about the colors we like best.
  • The students used cookie cutters to stamp pumpkin shapes.
  • We worked on reading to ourselves. We practiced turning pages, looking at pictures on the pages, and holing the book right side up.
  • The students put together a jack-o-lantern during an interactive story. We practiced pointing to our body parts that the jack-o-lantern has (eyes, nose, and mouth).
  • The children made textured ghost paintings.
  • We read a story about bats and learned a lot of new facts. After the story we wrote down the new things we learned.  Next, we worked on our fine motor skills and tore up paper to make a bat art project.

 

REMINDERS

  • Please turn in your preferred time sheet for parent/teacher conferences as soon as you can.
  • Don’t forget to turn in your child’s permission slip for trick or treating at the administrative offices on Halloween! They really go all out for our students and it is so much fun!
  • Our class goes to the book fair on Tuesday, October 25th at 2:00.

Newsletter for the Week of October 10th

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • On Monday, we had a group therapy session with Mr. Joe and Mrs. Gallery after we had our pictures taken. Joe and Mrs. Gallery worked with us on oral motor skills.  We also practiced scooping with spoons.  The children also had the chance to dig through peanut butter to find raisins to work on their fine motor skills.
  • We read a story about a boy who visits a farm and talked about how we saw many of the same things on our field trip last week.
  • The children drew in their journals.
  • We sang Old McDonald had a Farm. The children choose the animals that would come next in the song.
  • We played at the sensory table with the addition of farm animal toys. While we played we tried making animal noises.
  • The students finger painted red barns.
  • We practiced counting with Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.
  • We read a story about how leaves change colors in the fall. After, we painted with fall colors at the easel.  The children mixed yellow and red paint together to make orange.
