PEEK AT THE WEEK

• We continued letter of the week by listening to letter “I” songs, reading books about things that start with the letter “I”, using bingo markers to outline the letter, and continuing our letter book by adding an ice cream page
• The children drew in their journals
• We worked on building stamina during read to self time
• The children completed a reindeer craft. We traced our hands to use as antlers and tore up brown paper to work on fine motor skills and use as the face
• We practiced counting and number recognition with an interactive Christmas counting book
• The students practiced color recognition with a reindeer colored nose cookie sheet game
• The children made Christmas song request using the prompt “I want…”
• We sang jingle bells and shook bells along with the song
• We read a story about family traditions and then the children wrote about something their family does together during the holidays
• The children practiced recognizing the first letter in their names with our class book and then they decorated the first letter of their name with holiday stickers

• The children completed a science experiment to see if you can paint with m&m water… you can!
• We practiced counting and number recognition with an interactive Christmas counting book
• The children rolled a die, counted the dots, and then found the matching number during a roll and cover math game
• The students practiced color recognition with a reindeer colored nose cookie sheet game
• We also practiced color recognition with the story “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You Hear?”
• The children made Christmas song request using the prompt “I want…”
• We sang jingle bells and shook bells along with the song

• This week we worked on practicing the core vocab word “like” by talking about things we like to do
• We continued our unit about emotions and feelings by sorting things that make us happy or sad
• The students looked in mirrors and we talked about how we smile when we are happy. Then everyone wrote about something that makes them feel happy
• The children practiced one to one correspondence with ice cube trays and blocks
• We continued letter of the week by listening to letter “G” songs, reading books about things that start with the letter “G”, using bingo markers to outline the letter, and continuing our letter book by adding a gingerbread page
• The students worked on their fine motor skills by peeling taped down popsicle sticks off their trays
• We had OT/Speech group! The students worked together to make playdough then we got to play with it! We rolled it out, squished it between our fingers and pressed it down with our hands
• The children practiced counting and number recognition with the song “5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed”
• On Thursday, we celebrated two birthdays! Happy birthday to Ali and Nasr!!! Ali’s family sent in cupcakes and they were delicious!
• We read the book “Glad Monster, Sad Monster”
• We went out to the playground and took a walk along the path when the weather was nice

PEEK AT THE WEEK

• This week we worked on practicing the core vocab words “I” and “like” by talking about our feelings and what Thanksgiving foods we like and do not like
• We started our next unit which is about emotions and feelings
• The children practiced one to one correspondence with ice cube trays and blocks
• We read the story “Ten Apples Up On Top.” After the story we stacked 10 Legos. First we stacked them while counting, adding one each time until we reached ten, and the second time we made a pattern with red and green
• This week work focused on the letter “f.” We sang letter “f” songs, complete “f” bingo sheets, read books about the letter, and complete our letter book page by adding a fish bowl
• The children practiced counting and number recognition with the poem “Along comes Mr. Scarecrow”
• We practiced recognizing numbers 1-9 with our bean sensory bin and number puzzle. The students take turns searching through the beans for a number piece and then add it to the correct spot on the puzzle
• The children listened to a song about foods people eat at Thanksgiving and then I asked them which ones they like and do not like and we made a chart with our responses
• We made turkeys and spelled our names out on the feathers.  The students had to use a brown crayon to color the body, push down on the stapler, and squeeze glue bottles.  They also had to match the letters in their names and stamp the matching letter on the feather.  Our turkeys are hanging in the hallway outside our classroom
• The children read an interactive story about the color “orange” and complete a writing activity to go along with it
• Some of us have been practicing sitting in big kid chairs and staying in one spot during circle time.  They are doing a great job!

Hello, Snow School Community!  We will be participating in a canned food and non-perishable food drive to benefit Gleaner’s Food Bank.  We are collecting items from now until December 20.  If you can help us out it would be greatly appreciated!  Please send in the canned food and non-perishable food items with your Snow School students.  Watch the lobby as our donation grows and grows!  We thank you in advance for helping out those in need in our own community!

PEEK AT THE WEEK

• This week we worked on practicing the core vocab words “not” and “more” by asking for more bubbles and talking about foods we do not like
• We read the book “Leave on the Trees,” then the students used corks to paint fall colored leaves on a construction paper tree trunks
• The children practiced one to one correspondence with ice cube trays and blocks. We also practiced stacking the blocks.  It was fun to see how high we could go before the towers fell over
• We read an interactive book about things we see in the fall
• The children practiced counting and number recognition with the poem “5 Black Scarecrows”
• We read the story “Ten Apples Up On Top.” After the story we stacked 10 Legos. First we stacked them while counting, adding one each time until we reached ten, and the second time we made a pattern with red and green
• The children drew in their journals
• We practiced recognizing the first letter of our names with our matching book and with our bean sensory bin. The children search through the beans to find a letter and match it to the student whose name begins with that letter.  We also sing a song about the sound that letter makes

• This week we worked on practicing the core vocab words “want” and “more” by making song requests and asking for more bubbles
• We continued letter of the week by listening to letter “E” songs, reading books about things that start with the letter “E”, using bingo markers to outline the letter, and continuing our letter book by adding an envelope to our page
• The children helped clean out our pumpkin to make a jack-o-lantern.  They picked out the eyes, nose, and mouth for Miss Ashley to carve
• We sang Halloween songs and read Halloween stories including “The Hungry, Hungry Witch”
• The children decorated their trick or treat bags for our Field Trip
• We had orange pancakes and orange juice for breakfast on Halloween morning. The children practiced eating their pancakes with a fork
• We walked over to ASC for our Trick or Treat field trip. The kids had so much fun going around the building collecting candy and admiring everyone’s costumes
• The children drew in their journals
• One last time the children explored our Halloween themed sensory bin that is filled with dry beans, pumpkin shaped ice cube trays, pretend snakes, rats, and eyeballs
• The children practiced counting and number recognition while singing “5 Black Scarecrows” and playing a cookie sheet game
• The students are working HARD to independently feed themselves as much as possible during lunch and snack time. Please make sure you are giving your child the opportunity to work on these skills at home.  I know it can be messy and takes longer but it is very important they learn to feed themselves 🙂

REMINDERS

• If you have not yet returned your child’s emergency card please do so ASAP. It is very important we have the most updated information on file
• Return your parent/teacher conference sign-up sheet ASAP to get your preferred time slot. I will be sending out confirmations tomorrow.
