Newsletter for the Week of December 5th

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • On Monday we had group with Mr. Joe and Mrs. Gallery. Joe brought in gingerbread scented playdough and Mrs. Gallery brought an interactive gingerbread story.
  • The children looked through catalogs and each picked out a toy they would like to have as a gift this holiday season.
  • We completed our letter “l” page with leaf rubbings.
  • The children practiced counting with the poem “5 Little Gingerbread.”
  • We learned about the color green.
  • We worked on our holiday shape book. This week we focused on stars.
  • The students drew in their journals.
  • The children practiced prepositions with a gingerbread interactive story. The children had to place the gingerbread on the correct place on the page to match the words.
  • We made gingerbread cookies.
  • We found out how many gingerbread cookies tall everyone is by standing next to gingerbread cut outs.
  • The students each took a bite of their gingerbread men cookie and we graphed which part of the body they bit first (leg, arm, head).
  • The children practiced more counting and their fine motor skills with a gingerbread cookie math game. We rolled the dice, counted the dots, and then the children used a spatula to move pretend cookies from the cookie sheet to a plate.

 

 

Upcoming Events

  • Tonight! Friday, December 9th: Book Bingo in the gym at 6:30. Doors open at 6:15.
  • Miss Ashley will be out in the afternoon on Tuesday (13th) and Wednesday (14th) to continue the training she started last week. Mrs. Smith will be our sub again both afternoons.
  • Holiday Shopping: Our class is signed up to shop for our families at 10:00 next Thursday, December 15th. Envelopes for cash will be sent home soon.
  • Wednesday, December 21st is a late start day.
  • Winter Break: December 24th – January 8th. School resumes on January 9th.

PTA Announcement

BOOK BINGO
Friday, December 9
Join us Friday for Book Bingo! Doors open at 6:15 pm with Bingo starting promptly at 6:30 pm. Bingo tickets are $3 per pack of four. Make sure to wear your pajamas! We’ll have a pizza, drinks and delicious baked goodies for sale.
If you are interested in donating any 2-liters, water, or baked goods for purchase, please drop them off on the rack outside the office, anytime before 6pm.
Please bring small bills (no twenties). We appreciate all of your support and can’t wait to see everyone!

HOLIDAY SHOP
Our Holiday shop starts next week! Please come and help the students pick out some great gifts for the upcoming holidays! We can’t have a great time with out our wonderful parents helping. Please sign up on the sign up genius so we know that you will be there. Thank you!

REMINDER

Don’t forget: Bring in a jar of peanut butter for our Blessings in a Backpack Program and you get to wear your pajamas on Friday, December 9!

Good afternoon!

I just wanted to let you know I will be out of the classroom tomorrow while I attend a training session at another building.  My sub is Mrs. Smith.  Our classroom para, Ms. Kim, will be there to help her with our classroom schedule and rountines.

Newsletter for the Week of November 28th

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • The students worked on their fine motor skills this week with puzzles, magnetic mazes, peg jars, button jars, and makers.
  • We worked on the letter “k” completing our book page with key prints.
  • The students practiced counting to 5 and number recognition with numbers games on the white board. They loved cheering each other on and having a chance to use the special “pen.”
  • We read “Seals on the Bus” and practiced making animal sounds.
  • The children browsed books about shapes and we began making a holiday shape book.
  • We worked on color recognition and reading with an interactive book called “I See Colors” and the children helped me read with a voice output device.
  • We celebrate Ali’s birthday with cupcakes, cookies, and goodie bags. Happy 4th Birthday Ali!! Thank you for the yummy snacks!
  • The children made textured paintings using bows that you would put on a gift. Our paintings will hang outside our classroom.

 

Reminder

Snow School Peanut Butter Drive:  Ends on Friday, December 9.  For the donation of a jar of peanut butter students/staff can wear their pajamas to school that day.  Dr. Groover has set a goal of 420 jars!

Newsletter for the Week of November 21st

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • On Monday we became a preschool/kindergarten classroom and welcome three new students to our room. Welcome Lily, Mohammed, and Cody!
  • We had group with Mr. Joe and Mrs. Gallery here are some of the things we did during group:
    • Turkey dance
    • Put feathers in a cardboard turkey
    • Made popcorn kernels dance
    • Scoop cranberries with different utensils
  • Drew in our journals.
  • Read a book called “Thankful” and discussed the many things we are thankful for.
  • Practiced counting with a turkey pocket chart game.
  • Read to ourselves during read-to-self time. We are working on building stamina!
  • Reviewed letters A-J. When we return from break we will begin working with the letter “k”.

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • We practiced our fine motor skills with puzzles, peg and button jars, and lacing activities.
  • The children continued their letter book with the letter “j” and decorated their page with jewels.
  • We read “I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie” and then made a pie craft with paint and cinnamon for a festive scent.
  • The students practiced counting to 5 with a pocket chart game called 5 Little Turkeys.
  • We read a story called “Thankful” and then made a turkey project which we added what we are thankful to.
  • The children drew in their journals.
  • We went outside for recess to enjoy the beautiful weather we are having.
  • We sang a new Thanksgiving song and learned a new turkey dance 🙂
  • The students worked on their book handling skills during read-to-self time after snack. Many of the students are showing an increased interest in books lately and it is so much fun!

Picture Retake Day – Nov. 18th

Student and staff picture retakes will be this Friday, Nov. 18, in the AM.  If you are not happy with your child’s recent pictures, please return them to the school.  If you child was absent during our first picture day, please pick up a picture form in the office and send it in on Friday.  Or you may download and print the attached form or place your order online.  Thanks!
