PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • On Monday we made bird feeders with Mrs. Gallery and hung them up on the trees in the courtyard. On our way to music we could see the birds eating from them already!
  • The children drew in their journals. Some students practiced copying and drawing circles.
  • We worked on the color yellow. We read an adaptive book where we had to match pictures and then completed a coloring sheet.
  • The students practiced making requests for more bubbles. This is a new favorite activity!
  • We are still learning about plants and gardens. We read a book about worms and how they help our plants.  After, we made delicious dirt cups.  The dirt cups were made with pudding, cool whip, Oreo cookies, and of course gummy worms!
  • The students listened to the story “Tiny Seed” and then finger painted flowers to look just like the ones Eric Carle made for the book.
  • We practiced identifying the first letters in our names with our class name book.
  • The students practiced counting with an interactive garden counting book and then we counted the number of veggies we found on our worksheet.

  • June 6th – Special Ed Field Day – look for a permission slip in your child’s back pack next week

Field Day T-Shirts

The orders for 2017 Field Day T-Shirts are due by this Thursday, May 25.  Shirts are $5 each.  This is a special order- no late additions, returns, re-orders, or exchanges!  There will not be extra shirts to purchase.  You do not have to order a shirt to participate.  Order forms should be returned to Ms. Zechar.  Thanks!

Little Caesars Pizza Kits

Attention Snow School Parents and Guardians:
We appreciate all the selling of the Little Caesars Pizza Kits you have done thus far!  Please continue to sell those kits through the weekend. We are going to have to shorten our sale of the kits by approximately a week in order to ensure our delivery date in early June.  So please Sell! Sell! Sell! over the weekend and turn in your orders and money (checks made out to Snow School) to Mrs. Doner in Room 2 no later than TUESDAY, MAY 23rd. This is the one and only fundraiser that we do for our trip to Camp Pinewood let’s make it a good one!! 🙂

Newsletter for the Week of May 15th

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • On Monday we played on the playground with Mr. Joe and Mrs. Gallery.
  • This week we learned about plants and what they need to grow. We read a story, completed a graphic organizer, and made a plant craft.
  • The children practiced counting objects you find in the garden.
  • We sorted vegetables by color.
  • We practiced recognizing the first letter of our names.
  • The children worked on their fine motor skills with puzzles, shape sorters, button jars, peg jars, and tongs.
  • We read “There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Frog” and “fed” our old lady prop.
  • We used our new bubble gun while practicing making requests. The students practiced signing “more” and “please.”  Some of our verbal students practiced forming sentences to make requests such as “Can I have a turn?”

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • On Monday we went to the zoo! We had so much fun looking at all of the animals.
  • The children drew in their journals.
  • We talked about the animals we saw at the zoo.
  • We practiced number formation by driving a car over numbers 1-5.
  • The students read a book of our class that focused on the first letter in everyone’s name.
  • We walked the track in the back of the school.
  • We practiced color recognition with an interactive book and a matching game.
  • The children worked on core vocab words “like,” “no,” and “go” during small group activities.
  • The children made Mother’s Day cards.
  • We worked on building stamina during read-to-self time.
  • The students played outside in the beautiful weather.

Zoo Field Trip

We had so much fun at the zoo yesterday! The weather was perfect!  I am so proud of our class for being so good and of our kindergartners for walking the entire zoo! We had a great group of high school helpers who helped push strollers and hold our hands. 🙂

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • This week our theme was zoo animals in preparation for our field trip on Monday!
  • Our letter this week was the letter “z” very fitting with our theme. J The students completed handwriting practice sheets and their last book page!
  • The children worked on their fine motor skills with puzzles, fine motor jars, and tongs.
  • We practiced core vocabulary words “same” and “different.” We read stories about things that are the same and things that are different and then found items around the room.
  • The students painted animal tracks with toy animals.
  • We read a story called “Max Goes to the Zoo” and talked about animals we might see when we go to the zoo. After the story the students picked what animal they hope to see on our trip and we graphed the results.  Most of the students would like to see a monkey.
  • We practiced counting and number recognition with a 5 Little Monkeys cookie sheet game.
  • On Friday, we read a book about taking a field trip to the zoo. The story talked about things you can and cannot do at the zoo.  We are all looking forward to our trip!

 

Upcoming Events

We are going to the Detroit Zoo this Monday, May 8th rain or shine.  Please dress your child appropriately for the weather.

All students must bring a brown bag lunch on this day with all disposable items.  Please write your child’s name on their bag. We will not be making any food purchases during this trip.

Newsletter for the Week of April 24th

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • On Monday, we played outside on the playground with Mrs. Gallery. We went down the slides, on the swings, and up the climbing wall.  We also made it outside to play several other times this week.
  • This week we learned all about butterflies and their life cycle.
  • We started butterfly week off by reading a book about butterflies and completing a can, have, are chart.
  • The students painted symmetrical butterflies using corks to apply the paint.
  • We read a book about the butterfly life cycle and then made our own life cycle charts.
  • The letter of the week was “y.” The students completed their book and handwriting pages.
  • We also practiced color recognition with butterflies. We listened to a butterfly color song on YouTube, and then matched colored butterflies with a file folder game.
  • On Friday we had a cupcake day to celebrate Miss Ashley’s birthday which is on Saturday.
  • We baked cupcakes! Everyone had the chance to help add ingredients and mix the batter. We frosted them in the afternoon and ate them for snack!
  • The students also painted cupcakes with puffy paint. We each rolled a die to see how many sprinkles to add to our cupcake craft.
