4th grade – Lesson 5 – Decompose unit fractions to show how 2 fractions are equal. Due Friday, April 24. Zearn Lesson 5.

Science: Mystery 4 – How could you survive a landslide? There is a video with Doug and a fun activity that you can draw. Make sure to watch the video 2 or 3 times, then answer the 3 questions on the Google Doc and press TURN IN.

Make sure you have visited www.kidsa-z.com and read your 2 books. After reading or listening to the books, there is a quiz for each one. This site tells me your grade!

Due Wednesday – Writing both grades. Watch Mrs. Juntunen’s videos. (if you are having trouble viewing her teaching video, try it on a phone.) Then you pick a side for your opinion writing. List reasons on the Google Doc and press TURN IN.

A few 4th graders have a Social Studies chart to fill in about Should There be limits on Freedoms of Expression? That is due Wednesday also.

On Google Classroom, the assignment today under SOCIAL STUDIES BOTH GRADES has a video by brain pop jr. It says on the video: 503 Service Temporarily down (or not working), but I clicked it and logged in and it worked. The other option would be to go to Brain pop jr. on your computer and put in Mrs. Hulls information. Do a search for the video called Goods and Services.

Today is Jack’s birthday! He is 10! Have a great day Jack!

Today, we are going to begin a new Social Studies Unit – Economy. This will be for both grades. Mrs. Miles-Hull will be putting an assignment in Google Classroom. Please look under Social Studies Both Grades. There will be some reading from the online Social Studies Book. She will give you a link to click on to get that book, or if you already have on your Google Classroom SOCIAL STUDIES BOOK. (this is the 4th grade book) The pages to read will be about Economy. She tells you those pages in the lesson. Make sure to notice the DUE DATE. Another lesson will be coming on Thursday, so make sure this one is done.

**Some of you still have not gone on to Raz Kids. (www.kidsa-z.com) I put the directions and your passwords on a previous blog. You each have 2 books to read – a fiction and a nonfiction. There are quizzes which are graded. Please go to this site!

Math: For BOTH grades – Lesson 3 was due yesterday. I am missing several. Lesson 4 is due tomorrow. On Zearn, you should be finishing Lesson 4.

WRITING BOTH GRADEs – On Google Classroom, Mrs. Juntunen put a lesson with some videos. Watch the videos and read the article. You have a Google Doc – you must pick a side and list your reasons with information from the videos and article. Due Tomorrow (Wed.)

We have a new assignment from Mrs. Poisson called Energy Transfer.

Mr. Harvey and Mrs. Baloga put assignments for this week too.

Remember: all of this work is required. This is for your last report card. Please be responsible and spend about 2 hours a day doing school work. It is very important to not fall behind. This will be everything for today.

Miss Knaus

That will be all the assignments for today. We will be getting a new Social studies assignment tomorrow from Mrs. Hull.

**3rd graders – could you please let me know – when you go to Google Classroom, right up at the top of the page, do you see the on line book called SOCIAL STUDIES? (This is actually the 4th grade book, but I want to know if you can see it too.) Please email me.

**Reminder – both grades had Math Lesson 3 due by the end of today.

4th graders have a Social Studies chart due on Wednesday about the Bill of Rights. Kareem and Jack have turned it in already.

Please go to Google Classroom and look under Writing – Both Grades. Mrs. Juntunen has given us an Opinion Writing assignment. Her class, our class, and Mrs. Hull’s class are all doing this work. Today you are to watch the videos that she attached. There is an article to read. Then on the Google Doc, you are to pick a stance – take a side. List some reasons for your opinion from the videos and the article. This part of the Writing Assignment is due by the end of Wednesday. When you have finished your reasons, press TURN IN.

Today, we have Math, Reading, an introduction to Economy in Social Studies, and an introduction to a new Writing Prompt.

Already on Google Classroom you will find Math:

3rd Grade – Module 5, Lesson 4. Please watch the WHOLE video and work along with the 3 teachers. Please send me pictures of your work or Mom or Dad email me when you are finished. Due: Wednesday, April 22.

Reading:

Please go to this site: www.kidsa-z.com. I gave directions in a previous blog on how to log on. When you are there, go to the Student Portal and find Your Assignments. There are 2 books for each Reading Group – a fiction book and a nonfiction book. Some of you already looked at this last week and finished your nonfiction book. Please read carefully. You DO NOT have to do this in one day. You will have all week. When you take the quiz, be careful. This site sends me how many minutes your were on and your score on the quizzes. These will be used for grades. Please do not rush!

**I will be sending the Writing and Social Studies assignments in a little while.

***If you have not seen the Dearborn At Home Learning Plan, please go to Dearborn Schools Website – Parent portal for the link. This document outlines a plan for the rest of this school year. The main points being that Students are required to turn in assignments for grades – or at least “completed” or “not completed” assignments. Each week, teachers are logging in student work. I will be sending home progress reports each weekend. This information gets sent to Ms. Tiba. If there is a reason that a child cannot complete work, illness, family emergency, computer issues, please let me know right away. Dearborn will have a “Summer School” – on line summer learning if students are not completing a majority of work.

Each week, I will be providing 3 Math lessons, a Science lesson, Social Studies, Writing, and Reading. For 3rd – 4th graders, an expectation of approximately 2 hours a day working is good. Some days you may work a little more, some a little less, but 2 hours is a good goal to set.

I will leave assignments on Google Classroom for 1 week after the due dates. After that, I will delete them as to keep Google Classroom up to date and not so “cluttered.” Each new assignment will be dated and will go to the top of each category: Example – Today’s Math will be dated April 20 and will be the first assignment under Math -3rd Grade or Math 4th Grade.

Also, starting today, both 3rd and 4th grades will be learning about Economy in Social Studies. I will be combining Michigan’s Economy as we go along.

**My “office hours” will continue to be 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. I will try to answer emails during those hours as soon as possible. After 3:30, I will answer by the following day.

Thank you for your patience and support during this time, and I continue to hope and pray that all of you are safe and healthy!

Miss Knaus

Last thing today. In order to prepare for Dearborn’s On Line Learning Plan which you will be receiving soon, I want to make sure that I have the best email possible to reach all parents. I would like to begin sending home a Friday Weekly Progress Report that tells you work that was completed or not completed. This report will also be going to Ms. Tiba to document student work and progress. I have heard from most of you on a regular basis, so I would only like the following parents to provide me with the best email to reach you – a parent email (NOT the Google Classroom messenger). Or, if you are not on this list and have a different email you would like to give me.

Please email me at knausj@dearbornschools.org and tell me how to best reach you by email. Thank you so much!
