Archive for March 2020

Starting Monday morning, March 16, I will be available from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. You can contact me through this blog – or knausj@dearbornschools.org.

I will either be on line or checking my email throughout the day, so if you have any questions, hopefully I can answer them.

Each day, I will be posting a few assignments for students to work on. We are going to do 3 Math lessons this week – I will post the videos that teach the lessons, then the work to be done. For those of you that were able to pick up your Learn and Homework books, you can work right in those. If you didn’t, I will hopefully be able to post the Problem Set and Homework on Google Classroom. I will also direct you to a few sites that we can use.

For reading, some of you were able to pick up books. I will give choices throughout the week – your reading book from your book bag, or I will post some reading passages on line with questions. I will also post how to get onto Readworks and we can use that site too.

Through Google Classroom, we will have some writing assignments. Also on Google Classroom, both 3rd and 4th grades have an on line Social Studies book that we will use. Our Science site, Mystery Science, is making lessons and videos available for you to watch at home, and I will include some questions to answer on Google Classroom.

Hello Parents and Students,

Never would I have expected my final year of teaching to become online! This is unchartered territory for us, and though we have not been formally trained to conduct online “new” learning, Lindbergh staff met on Friday, and we have all been in contact over the weekend to come up with a plan to help students at home continue school work and learning. I do ask for your patience and understanding though, as we go through this.

Our first and foremost concern is health, and if you, your child, or family members are not feeling well, please take care of yourself first and don’t worry about assignments.

Districts around the state are doing different things, and schools in Dearborn are also putting out different plans. Please realize that what we are putting on our blogs for Lindbergh may look different from other schools. We met as a staff Friday morning and heard from Ms. Tiba. Then we met as grade levels to coordinate plans to pass onto you at home.

Right now, there are still many unanswered questions. We do not know if school will be extended after June 11. We do not know if MStep and other tests will be moved or adjusted. We do know that our third card marking is up on March 27, so I will be using the grades that I have as of now for those report cards.

This blog is going to be our #1 form of communication for the next few weeks. Please check it daily. I will be posting assignments on both the blog and on Google Classroom.

Dear Parents,

As of Monday, March 16, we will be conducting learning on line through Google Classroom. I will be using both our Blog and Google Classroom for updates and assignments. Students will be expected to turn in assigned work through Google Classroom just as if we were in school. We will continue to have Reading, Math, Writing, Spelling, Social Studies, and Science on line.

This is a new process for all of us in Dearborn, and communication will be key during this time! Therefore, please check the blog every day for updates. Please see the directions on the previous blog post on how to log onto Google Classroom. We have done this in class, so students should be familiar with it. I will be sending home Class Codes for all the sites we will use and then individual passwords for students. If I don’t have a current email address for you, please email it to me at knausj@dearbornschools.org.

Spring Break will still be observed from April 6 – 10, so no assignnents will be given at that time. As of now, Dearborn plans to return to school on Monday, April 13.

Thank you for your patience and help during this time!

J. Knaus (Once again, another “first” for my last year of teaching!)
