….. the Holidays are here!! Kindergartners are Reading!! They are using word stems from a game on Starfall.com to rhyme words.  We played a game of finding a classmate with a rhyming word and adding it to a bow for our fabulous Holiday themed bulletin board. Next, they will partner up and learn to type the words out on our Chromebooks.

It’s Halloween week so we are using play dough and other items to construct the most creative Halloween structure, tallest structure and most creative with a teammate in just 3 minutes.  So much fun!!

Kindergarten and 5th graders learned about Spiders this week and just in time for Halloween.  Did you know one of the largest spiders found are as big as a dinner plate!?!?

….Kinetic and Potential, that is. 4th graders learned about Catapults and worked in teams to create their own Catapult.  And they used a pumpkin (candy).  It was a lot of fun and there were some great inventions.

Here is my pumpkin that I made for the River Oaks Pumpkin Raffle.  Teachers and families are making them to raffle off for the PTA.  Arrr… you ready for some pumpkin fun for the rest of this month?  We are doing so many exciting science activities about Halloween.

We had some fun using our senses when we went inside a pumpkin. Kinders made a book telling about ‘what’s inside a pumpkin?’ 

Why do leaves change color? We went on a leaf hunt and picked a special leaf to examine and inspect. 4th and 5th graders did an experiment about how chlorophyll and photosynthesis play a roll. 

We had a fantastic time at our Annual City Beautiful Breakfast.  Our new junior commissioners, Sabrina and Hashem recited the oath to uphold to lead our River Oaks students to encourage and lead to having a wonderful city.  It was a lot of fun.
