It is going to be another fantastic year. It has been such a busy week. I have met all my classes, this year, my early 5’s, kindergartners, 4th and 5th graders. We have been learning about proper classroom and computer lab rules and routines. We remember to push in our chairs when getting up, organize our computer area, and line up in a straight while being quiet for the teacher to arrive.
I have so much to share with you and can’t wait to start learning and growing here at River Oaks

The winner of the Pennies for Petunias drive was Mrs. Johnson!!! They enjoyed flower shaped cookies and milk outside. They also helped pick weeds and helped with our flower pots by our sign.
We also started a Garden club. We met after school and fixed up our pots. Our entrance is beautiful now!!
April has been a busy month so far. We are celebrating how we Care to the Core here at River Oaks. Our students will take part in beautifying our surroundings outside our school. We will compete in a penny war against class in Pennies for Petunias challenge. The winning class will help have a special treat and help take care of the flowers. Our Garden club will be hard at work cleaning and planting every week in May too.
I was able to surprise my 1st graders and be the Guest reader. It was awesome. I read 2 of my favorite books and even shared a treat with the classrooms.

Us teachers are busy reading all kinds of materials and genres. Do you know who is reading?
We have seen plenty of them this winter, SNOWFLAKES! And so we are learning about the science of what makes a unique beautiful flake. Students watched a You-tube video and learned to take notes. They then created their own snowflake using toothpicks, glass rock and q-tips. Everyone designed an amazing and unique snowflake.

Just a reminder Parent Talk classes start tomorrow January 9th at 1:30.
Margaret King Ahmed – Parent Involvement Educator will be hosting effective Parent talk classes here at River Oaks School.
What is Parent Talk? You will learn communication skills that empower, encourage self-responsible behaviors, self-motivation and character development. Learn practical skills to positively effect the social and emotional development of your children and family. You will increase achievement and decrease discipline issues with effective Parent Talk.
Classes will be held on Tuesday’s at 1:30 – 3:30.

Oh what fun! My 4th and 5th graders had a challenge to work with their team to make a freestanding tree using only paper, tape, and Popsicle sticks. They did a great job and most were able to make a freestanding structure.
