A few students from 4th and 5th grades were selected to be part of the Robotics Exobots. We will be working on our project and core values posters. Also we will putting together our tasks and missions. Robotics will meet on Tuesdays and Wednesday of each week.

Dear Parents,
Students in 3rd and 4th grades will be taking the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP). This school year, the testing window for the new M-STEP assessments for both grades will be April 30 to May 18. Students will take the reading, writing and math assessments. Both tests will include open-ended response, writing, and multiple choice questions. Please see M-STEP assessment schedule below:

Before the Test:
- *Develop a positive attitude. Tell yourself, “I will do my best on this test.”
- *Get a good night’s sleep the night before the test.
- *Get up early enough to avoid hurrying to get ready for school.
- *Eat a healthy breakfast.
During the Test:
- *Relax and stay calm.
- *Listen carefully to the directions the teacher gives.
- *Ask questions if you don’t understand what to do.
- *Read each question carefully. Find the key words. Try to figure out what the question is really asking.
- *Read the entire question and look at all the answer choices.
- *Use strategies you learned in class to figure out the answer
- *Take your time picking the best answer.
- *Go back and recheck your answers.
Please tell your child to take their time on the test and to do their best.

WIDA Assessment
WIDA ACCESS will start February 2 to March 23. The majority of students at Iris Becker Elementary will be tested on Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. Comprehension is embedded in the test.
Blue Ribbon School
Iris Becker was chosen by the federal government as one of the Exemplary Schools in the nation. Only 13 schools in Michigan received this status. We are proud as a Becker community to receive this honorable status. We thank all the stakeholders involved, especially the parents, teachers, and students.

Winter Packets
Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will complete the winter packets being sent home with students. Students are to bring back the packets to school and we will review them, together. Have a happy and a peaceful holiday.
