Please join us Thursday, September 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for our annual Open House and Parent Title I informational meeting.
You will have an opportunity to follow your student’s schedule, meet his or her teachers, and learn about the curriculum for each of your student’s classes.
In our continued effort to make DHS a “Green” school, you will need to complete the bottom portion of this letter and bring it with you to follow your child’s schedule; copies of student schedules will not be available that night.
You may access your child’s schedule through the Parent Connect portal. Please contact Ms. Berry for information regarding Parent Connect at 313-827-1612.
Students will be located throughout the building to assist you.
Please remember that Open House is not a time to discuss individual students. If you have an individual concern, please phone or e-mail your student’s teacher or counselor to schedule a meeting. Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for October 14th & October 16th.

Dearborn High School Electronic Device Policy
Personal electronic devices can be distracting to the learning process. This includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, airpods, headphones, iPads, personal use electronics, etc.
To support our mission of educating students, we are asking students not to bring any electronic device to DHS to be used throughout the school day. If a student does choose to bring them to school, it is expected that they follow the policy below:
Students may use personal electronic devices on school property during the following designated
times only:
● Before the start of the school day until 7:10 a.m., when our first bell rings
● During a student’s lunch time, but ONLY in the cafeteria
● After school is dismissed, 2:15 p.m.
Throughout the school day, ALL electronic devices should be turned off, out of sight, and locked/secured properly.
If a student is found to have an electronic device outside of the designated times listed above, the student will be asked to turn it over to a staff member. Devices that are collected by staff will be turned into the student’s administrator who will address the infraction according to our student code of conduct.
● First Violation: Phone will be given to the student’s administrator and a parent or guardian will be contacted.
● Second Violation: Phone will be given to the student’s administrator and a parent or guardian will be contacted; the device will be held for three consecutive school days.
● Third Violation: Phone will be given to the student’s administrator and a meeting with a parent or guardian will be required. Student will be disciplined according to the student code of conduct for insubordination.
● Additional Violation: The student will be disciplined according to the student code of conduct for insubordination.
Should a student refuse to turn in their device when requested to do so by a staff member; the staff member will contact the office and the student will be immediately escorted to the office to meet with administration. This will result in a referral for insubordination.
Dearborn High School is not responsible or liable for any theft, loss, or damage to any student’s personal electronic device. In order to prevent this from possibly occurring, students are encouraged to keep their devices at home.
We appreciate the support of our parents and guardians to eliminate distractions, academic dishonesty, and disruptions during the school day. If there is a family emergency, parents or guardians should call 313.827.1600.
Congratulations to the Class of 2019!
A few reminders:
At commencement, our expectation is that we will all enjoy ourselves within reason and respect the event. Do not spoil the event for your families, friends, or yourself. Please be respectful in how you behave during commencement and at the senior party.
Again, congratulations! We’re all proud of you and your accomplishments at Dearborn High School! You are and always will be a Pioneer; let’s maintain that pride with our actions.
Sincerely,
Mr. Martin

Parents,
As a reminder, we have final exams this week and ½ days on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Also, we recognize that cell/smart phones are a regular part of yours and your child’s lives. In order to maintain the security of our testing sessions, as well as to reduce distractions for others, we are asking you to discourage your child from bringing their phones with them to school during our final exams this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Should your student absolutely need to bring their phone, please encourage them to have it turned off and stored in their lockers. If their phone comes into the classroom, students will be directed to turn them off and turn them in during the testing session; at the end of the testing session, they will receive them back.
Any student who has a phone out during an active testing session may receive disciplinary action in accordance with our student code of conduct, possibly resulting in an out of school suspension, as well as possible invalidation of that exam.
We recognize this may be an inconvenience, but feel confident that this will better support a more secure and focused testing atmosphere. As a reminder, Dearborn High School is NOT responsible for lost or stolen cell phones or electronic devices.
Thank You
Mr. Martin
