Final Exam Cell Phone Policy

Parents,

We recognize that cell/smart phones are a regular part of yours and your child’s lives. In order to maintain the security of our testing sessions, as well as to reduce distractions for others, we are asking you to discourage your child from bringing their phones with them to school during our final exams this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Should your student absolutely need to bring their phone, please encourage them to have it turned off and stored in their lockers. If their phone comes into the classroom, students will be directed to turn them off and turn them in during the testing session, a similar practice occurs during our upcoming SAT exam. At the end of the testing session, students that turn in their phones to the teachers will receive them back.

Any student who has a phone out during an active testing session may receive disciplinary action in accordance with our student code of conduct, possibly resulting in an out of school suspension, as well as possible invalidation of that exam.

We recognize this may be an inconvenience, but feel confident that this will better support a more secure and focused testing atmosphere.

As a reminder, Dearborn High School is NOT responsible for lost or stolen cell phones or electronic devices.

Thank You

Mr. Martin

Welcome Letter 2017-18 School Year

Parents,

We’re all excited and eager to begin the 2017-18 school year and know it’s going to be a great one. As you know, tomorrow is the first day of school; students will attend all their classes and will be dismissed at 10:30 am.

I’d like to answer a few questions to help with the morning. If your student was unable to pick-up their schedule at registration, we will be able to collect their forms, get them their schedule and picture ID tomorrow morning; please have them report to the cafeteria.

Students who are missing a class on their schedule need to report to the guidance/counseling office only during the hour where they have a conflict.

If your child has a full schedule, but has a concern with the class they were assigned have them get a course change request sheet from the guidance/counseling office and turn it in at some point within the next few days; most of these issues can be resolved without your child needing to miss classes.

The only class changes that will be approved are those where your child has already had the class or doesn’t need the class to fill a graduation requirement.

Some students schedules may have changed since registration, please let your child know that when they get to school this may impact them.

If you’re wondering about supplies, just make sure they have something to write with and something to write on and we’ll be able to help from there.

Lastly, we recognize for some of our students this is all new. There will be adults all around the building, encourage them to ask one of us if they have any questions.

Enjoy your last day of summer, we’ll see you all tomorrow.

Thanks

Mr. Martin
