week of 10/1

Hello everyone!

half way through the first semester!

Both 7th and 8th finished up their respective projects on friday and we move into new units this week. Today (monday) saw their first test in both grade levels. Should have them back and in the books by wednesday. Test corrections will follow soon after for those that require them.

Stem Apps moves onto a new project this week that spans multiple subjects. We are gearing up for this year’s Future Cities competition! The studentx will be tasked with designing a new power grid that will last 100 years into the future and be able to withstand natural disasters like the tsunami in Indonesia, wild fires in California, or the hurricanes in… well all over the south eastern US.  if you want to learn more about the competition and background here is a link https://futurecity.org/

This week also brings the first meeting of Student Council which is being run by myself and Mr Theisen

week of 9/24

Happy monday everyone!

Both 7th and 8th grade did great on their first quiz. Those that are not happy with their grade know what is required for a retake which will occur tomorrow (9/25)

Both groups are also in full swing on their first project. I am pleased with the progress thus far and hope to begin presentations this thursday. 8th grade is preparing to “sell” the class one of the original 13 colonies which ties into their lessons on ethos, pathos, and logos from language arts. 7th is working on finding a good place for the human race to survive and start over after a major disaster that changes the shape of the continents. This project ties into science as well as recalls some of their geography skills from last year.

IXL scores and quiz scores are in the gradebook. Many still need to finish their ixls. I will be posting the next set of IXLs tomorrow on classroom for them.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Have a great week

A small favor

Allergy season is in full effect it seems. My class has gone through a massive amount of kleenex. I am asking if at all possible that a few boxes of kleenex and hand sanitizer be donated to our room to keep up with the demand and keep passing on of germs down. Thank you very much in advance!

Week of Sept 10th

Hello everyone! First let me say how excited i am to have each and every one of your students in my classroom. We have already had a great time and i know this year is going to be awesome.

This week we started our lessons with 7th grade exploring how and why we study history. 8th grade is discussing the emerging feeling of independence the American Colonies had growing within that leads to the war for independence.

Today, sept 11th, I took out about 40 minutes for each class and we had a discussion about the events that happened in 2001. I explain to my class each year where i was, what i was doing, and how things changed because of the tragic events. We also talk about the positives that surface as people come together during times of tragedy. We watched a great cnn ten student news segment about the event and the memorial museum in New York today as well.

Tomorrow begins NWEA So i will only be seeing my STEM apps class and one section of 7th grade history. I will catch up 1-3rd hour friday on the half day and continue with the topics above.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
