Good afternoon!

Just a few reminders…

  • Tomorrow is OPEN HOUSE! My presentation will begin at 6:05PM to allow for everyone to gather in the room. I have a Power Point presentation to share with you as well as a Scavenger Hunt for students to complete. (Please be aware that I have a 4:30 doctor’s appointment in Royal Oak. In the event that I do not make it back in time, another teacher will be here to start the presentation. Thank you for understanding.)
  • HELLO! My Name Is: posters are due by Friday. I’ve noticed a few in the folders that don’t look like they’re finished, and others that definitely do! I’ll collect finished posters at the end of the day today.
  • Please help your child work on recalling his/her number and team number as well as what they have for lunch. There is still a lot of confusion in the morning when I ask students, “What’s for lunch?”

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at Open House!

Good afternoon!

Thank you in advance for reviewing the WB Positive Behavior matrix with your child. Only the signature strip needs to be returned.

Tomorrow we will begin our study of the 7 Habits. Habit 1 is Be Proactive. It means I am in charge of me. Students will receive their Leadership Guides in the morning.

By now, students should be able to tell you their number as well as which team they are a member of.  You might use the following sentence stems to quiz them:

My number is _.

I am on team _.

As we continue to work on establishing our daily routine, it is extremely important for students to understand that they need to listen to directions the first time. In addition, students must know their purpose for coming to school. As of yet, there are still a number of students who when asked, “Why are we here?” cannot respond. We are at school for many reasons, including to learn new things and to make friends.

Good afternoon!

It has been a loooooooooooong day! I’m hearing a lot of, “When do we get to go home?” this afternoon. That’s to be expected. It will take some time getting used to being here for a full day.

Please be sure to send the blue Nicky folder to school everyday. Today, you’ll find the students’ HELLO! My name is: poster in their folders. I shared mine and gave students time to get theirs started. These are to be finished at home and returned to school by Friday. If you and your child finish the poster before Friday, then please send when finished. Here’s a photo of my finished poster:

I’m excited to see and display all of the finished posters!

Don’t forget- this THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14 is OPEN HOUSE! It starts at 6:00 and ends at 7:30PM. I hope to see everyone there!

Behavior Board

Each child has a magnet on the clip chart, with his/her number. Students start each day on green or Leaders in Learning. Students have the chance to move their clip up or down throughout the day depending upon the choices that they make. If a clip is moved up, it can be moved down if poor choices are being made, and visa versa, if the clip is moved down, it can be moved up if their choices improve. At the end of each day, the clip chart color is recorded for record keeping.  Kindergarten will use a calendar chart.

Silver – Soaring Eagles – Student clipped up for showing excellent behavior and making excellent choices. This is an excellent level to end the day on.

Green – Leaders in Learning – Student begins the day here. The student is showing good behavior and making good choices.  This is a great level to end the day on.

Yellow – Fluttering – Student clipped down as a warning of making a poor choice. If your child clips down, please discuss the behavior with them.

Orange – Far from the Flock – Students clipped down twice because of a poor choice. The teacher and student will decide an acceptable consequence for this action.

Red – Grounded – Students that move to red made very poor choices. Teacher will decide on an appropriate consequence for this action.

Blue – Parent Contact – Students that had to move to blue have had many chances to make better choices but continues to make poor choices. Teacher and parent will decide on an appropriate consequence for this action.

Good afternoon!

Today the student emergency cards were sent home. Please look over your child’s card to make sure the the information is correct. Please make corrections/revise the card as needed and return to school in the blue Nicky folders. I will collect them tomorrow morning.

We had a much better day today! This morning we took some time to discuss our purpose for being at school. Here’s what some of our friends had to say…

We will review/revisit this question tomorrow morning, as well as discuss the 3 Ways to Read a Book. Today we discussed one way to read a book which is to

Read the Words

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! Fri-YAY!

Regarding Birthdays…

We know that students love to celebrate birthdays at school, as it is a memorable time to share with teachers and friends. In an effort to abide by our existing birthday treat policy and to maximize student instructional time, we are asking all families to follow these simple guidelines when planning for your child’s birthday celebration at school. The Whitmore staff feels strongly that by following these guidelines, we will be promoting a healthier lifestyle and maximizing student learning!

  • Bring in non-food items for classmates such as pencils, erasers, bookmarks, etc.
  • Volunteer in your child’s class and capture the moment with a class “birthday” photo.
  • Make a donation to your child’s class in honor of your child’s birthday.
  • Provide non-food item goodie bags for classmates which can be distributed and taken home at the end of the day.
  • Donate an educational game or book for your child’s classroom.
  • Or contact your child’s teacher with other non-food/drink ideas

Students are not allowed to bring in food/drink items for birthday celebrations at school. The purpose of this policy is to assure a school environment that promotes and protects students’ health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity.

Other rationale for restricting treats at school includes:

  • Expense
  • Equity
  • Allergies

Please know that we are not trying to take the fun out of birthdays. Classroom teachers will continue to recognize children on their special day in special ways. Thank you in advance for your support of this policy and for helping promote healthy practices at Whitmore-Bolles!
