SCIENCE: NWEA testing has been rescheduled for tomorrow morning from 8:50-10:00AM. If you’re running late, please meet us in the computer lab with a good fit book and your D5 notebook.

READING: Read to self for at least 30 min. One Reading Response Journal (RRJ) entry is required for every time you sit down to read to self. The type of entry is entirely up to you!

Here are some of the suggestions that we noted in class today:

  • Write down any questions that you had before, during, or after reading (then go back and answer them)
  • Which point of view is used? Explain how you know.
  • List any new or interesting words that you came across, and write down what you think they might mean.
  • Describe the mental images that you had while reading.
  • Make predictions.
  • Write a summary of the passage that you read, or what you’ve read so far.
  • Write four new facts that you learned while reading.
  • Write down any similes or metaphors that you came across while reading, and write what you think they mean.
  • Write about the characters actions. What do the character’s actions tell you about him or her?
  • Explain how you know that the book is in fact a good-fit for you.
  • Compare and contrast
  • Character traits
  • Write about the character’s thoughts, motivations, and feelings- citing examples from the book.

There are lots of other ways to reflect throughout the reading process. If you have any other suggestions, please share them with me!

Don’t forget to fill out your NEW Reading Log, including the date, title, author, number of minutes spent reading, and get an adult at home to sign. The first Reading Log is due 2/13.

SPELLING: Remember to find 5 more words that have the final /le/ spelling. The test for this week’s list will be 2/13. Four completed assignments are due at that time.

We will go to the Book Fair this Friday after music!
