Good afternoon!

  • Tomorrow (Tuesday) our class will visit the Holiday Shop. Please meet us at the auditorium at 1:00PM if you plan to shop with your child.
  • Wednesday is a LATE START for all students, 9:30AM start time.
  • Friday is our holiday celebration and the school-wide sing along.

Boots/snowpants are not required for recess, however they are a good idea especially on days like today. It was warmer, though there was and still is snow on the ground. Students who do not have boots will need to stay on the blacktop during recess.

Next Week!

I hope everyone has a safe weekend! Here are some notes for next week:

  • New Class W.I.G. (Wildly Important Goal)- The students in Mrs. Coleman’s kindergarten class will bring only healthy snacks for one full week (12/18-12/22). Healthy snacks include fruits and veggies. We will track our progress daily and celebrate our success on Friday when we have our Holiday Celebration! (see note below)
  • On Wednesday, December 20, 0ur class will visit the WB Holiday Shop. We will shop from 9:00-9:30. Parents are welcome to join us as counting and calculating money is not a kindergarten math standard. Gifts range in price. Please meet us in the auditorium if you would like to assist your child with his/her purchases.
  • Friday is our Holiday Celebration! I’ve started a sign-up using the website Sign Up Genius, however to sign up to bring an item, you’ll first need to email me so that I can add you to my list of invitees. I don’t want to bombard everyone in my address book with invitations. Items for donation include pre-cut fruits and veggies, bowls, napkins, etc. Thank you in advance!

Special Weather Announcement

From our Superintendent:

Due to the severe weather predicted for this afternoon, (12/13/17) all after school activities will be cancelled in the Dearborn Public Schools. This includes athletics, childcare programs, adult and community education, building permits, and other events specific to individual schools.
All schools will remain open today and close at their regular time. Parents have the option to pick up their child early. Any student who is picked up by their parent or legal guardian will be given an excused absence. High school students will only be allowed to leave early if a parent or legal guardian contacts the school.
Normal bus routes will operate but may run late. All extracurricular buses for activities will be cancelled.

Good afternoon!

  • Today we heard from the students who remembered to bring their Trade 10 projects to school. “I brought 10 _____ to trade” was the sentence stem we used. There were 11 who did not bring items to trade and 3 who were absent. Therefore, the actual trading will happen tomorrow, giving you one more day to prepare your items. Students who do not bring items for trade will be given an alternative assignment.
  • Today was a good day for snow pants and snow boots, but a bad day to forget to bring shoes (for gym). Don’t forget to send an extra pair of shoes to change into on snowy days.
  • And speaking of snow… we’re working on writing an informational piece about how to build a snowman. If you happen to get outside to do any building this week, PLEASE send pictures! You can email them to me and/or send photos of past snowman-building adventures that would provide awesome visual representations for our writing. Thank you!

Drive safely today! -Mrs. Coleman

It’s FriYAY!

Just a few notes:

  • I didn’t get a chance to check the HW notebooks today, but I already have a PLAN to do just that during Monday’s Gym special.
  • Monday is the day when you need to bring your items for the Trade 10 Project. Please put items in a labeled gallon size Ziploc bag. Ideas for the project can be found in Monday’s blog.
  • If you’re running late for dismissal, please call the office. They will let me (us) know so that we’re not waiting in the cold. I will send your child to the office to wait.

On Monday, we will begin to explore Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw! Also, we hope to get outside for just a short time so that we can take a closer look at snowflakes! Have a great weekend! -Mrs. C

Good afternoon!

Here are a few notes for today:

  • We are hoping for snow tomorrow! Why on earth would anyone hope for snow? Well, after reading a nonfiction text about The Science of Snow and studying Weather in Science, we are going to try to catch our own snow crystals. If you have a piece (or two or three) or dark cardboard or foam core board (about the size of a book) that we can use, please send it to school with your child tomorrow. I will provide magnifying glasses so that we can see the crystals better.
  • Tomorrow morning we will be joined by Ms. Michaelis, parent of a fourth grade student. She has offered to make Christmas ornaments for all the students in our school. When finished, the ornaments will be sent home.
  • Handwriting practice was sent home today. Students need to practice writing their First Last name- using upper and lowercase letters appropriately. They may highlight the uppercase letters if you have a highlighter at home.

Thanks! Mrs. C

Good afternoon!

Today I told the students about The Trade 10 Project. One of our standards in Social Studies is to understand the concept of trade and how it can get you some of the things you either need or want. The students will be participating in a trading activity and will need your help to prepare their objects.

I am asking each family to either make or purchase 10 (inexpensive) items of their choice for our trading game. Items do not need to be complicated, but should be fun and something your child thinks the other kids will want to have. All 10 items should be similar, for example 10 loom bracelets.

Here are some ideas:

  • bookmarks
  • loom bracelets
  • homemade playdough or slime in containers
  • necklaces
  • signs for doors or door knobs
  • pins
  • picture frames made from foam or craft sticks
  • magnets
  • erasers
  • pencils

You have ONE WEEK to prepare your items. All items for trade need to be brought to school on Monday, December 11. Please put items in a labeled gallon size Ziploc bag.
