Current Events

We will be using a new form for reporting the news. I will share the new form along with a news article with students tomorrow.

Please use this week to find an article that is a good-fit, not just for the presenter but for the audience as well. Grade-level appropriate news sources include:

  • dogonews.com
  • Scholastic News
  • Time for Kids
  • Newsela.com

We will resume Current Events next Monday.

A Look at the Week Ahead

MATH: Review for Unit 2 Test, Test will be given on Thursday.

SCIENCE: I’ll collect the Listening Walk assignment tomorrow. We will continue to investigate how sounds are made tomorrow and Tuesday.

SS: We will continue to read and analyze MI Legends this week, and use the article about The Three Fires to begin our first Informational Writing all about Human/Environment Interaction.

READING: The Flow Chart for Sequence of Events (Lady’s Slipper) is due tomorrow. We will read and analyze new Legends this week including The Legend of Sleeping Bear and The Legend of Leelenau. You will need a nonfiction text for this week’s Reading Log.

SPELLING: New words arriving tomorrow.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable break for Thanksgiving. I have been eating way too much, but have been Sharpening the Saw by walking the dogs every day! Speaking of the dogs…

A Look at the (Short) Week Ahead

MATH: Investigating Odd/Even Sums, Fact Fluency, graphing glove/mitten totals

SCIENCE: Light and Sound (Circle Map), Investigating Properties of Light and Sound

SS: Small Groups will have time tomorrow to complete their Native American Group chart. We will read about The Three Fires (and later use information gathered to write our first Informational Essay)

READING/ LA: What makes a story a legend? Also, we will continue to work on typing our Opinion Writing.

SPELLING: No Spelling this week!
