Light Energy Study Guide

You will need to match the words with the definitions.

  1. Light- a form of energy that you can see
  1. Translucent- a material that allows some light to pass through it.
  2. Opaque- a material that does NOT allow light to pass through it.
  3. Transparent- a material that allows light to pass through it.
  1. Shadow- a dark area on a surface created by an object blocking the path of light.
  1. Reflect- to bounce off a surface.

Facts to know for multiple choice questions

  • Light travels in a straight line.
  • Light can reflect off a surface.
  • Light can come from many sources.
  • The moon is not a light source.
  • If I shine my flashlight on a clear window, the light would pass through the window.
  • An example of a translucent material is a piece of tissue paper.
  • When light waves strike an opaque object, a shadow forms.
  • When light strikes a bumpy surface, the light bounces off and scatters in all directions.
  • When light strikes a smooth surface, they bounce off and are reflected.
  • An object’s shadow is sharp and clear if the object is close to the wall.
  • An object’s shadow is blurry if the object is far from the wall.
