Hello Everyone!

Today we started NWEA testing with reading.  We completed half of the test (I am breaking it up into smaller sections so that students can focus better) and we will finish testing tomorrow.  Any students who do not finish tomorrow will be given time to finish Tuesday.

  2.  Practice your spelling words- we have a spelling test tomorrow.

Reminder:

  1. Tomorrow is a half day.  We end school at 11:45 tomorrow.
  2. We have no school on Monday (MLK Jr. Day).
  3. We have a half day on Tuesday- school ends at 11:45.

Wednesday 1-16-19

Happy Wednesday!

Today we had a wonderful field trip to the children’s theater in Northville.  We saw Tinker Bell and Peter Pan visit storybook land.  It was great to see the children experience attending a show with acting, music, props, and a stage.  Thank you to our two chaperones who came with us 🙂  I really appreciate it!

Tomorrow we begin NWEA testing for reading.  We will start tomorrow and continue testing Friday morning if we need more time.  All the students will need to read all of the words themselves- the computer does not read it to them and I am not allowed to help them.  Students can practice for NWEA by going on study island under Clever, and clicking ELA.  They should also be reading their leveled books out of their reading bags.

I have been doing DRA tests this past week and will continue next week.  I will send home a paper with your child’s NWEA scores and current DRA level once every child has been tested (I’m anticipating at the end of next week).

  2. Complete some spelling activities (4 will be due on Thursday 1/10/19)
  3. Do your winter break packet I sent home yesterday (You will not be penalized if you don’t do this packet.  However for each page you bring back completed you get a ticket for the ticket drawing.  You may earn up to 4 tickets 🙂 The packets are due the Monday we come back.)

We will be taking NWEA again when we come back from break in January.  To help your child prepare we have 2 new programs children can do from home on CLEVER to practice.

We have two new online programs students should use daily over the break.   We are very fortunate that Mr. AbuRus purchased these amazing programs for our students.  One is called Study Island and the other is Reading Eggs.   Both are accessed through Clever.   All students know how to get onto clever.

To get started on Study Island choose the Study Island icon and then press “Mi Program”, choose a subject (math, ela, or science), choose “take diagnostic test”.   Have your child take the diagnostic test for each subject.

To get started on Reading Eggs choose the Reading Eggs icon, choose “Reading Eggs”,  next students have a choice – take a placement test or start at lesson 1.   Choose one and begin.

Students must take these diagnostic and placement tests on their own without any help.

After they complete these assessments they can go into the programs and practice (without help) daily over the break.

Thank you,

Happy holidays!

Thursday 12-20-18

Happy Thursday:

Today your child is bringing home several things in their backpack.  The first is a present they made for you.  They have a new book “Sneezy the Snowman” which is their’s to keep.  They also have a winter break packet.  It is two pages front and back.  Breaks are a time that I want everyone to spend with their family, so any child who doesn’t bring it back will not be penalized.  However, if your child brings it back to me the Monday or Tuesday after break, they can get up to 4 tickets for the ticket drawing- 1 ticket for each page they complete 🙂

Homework for tonight:

  1. Please go on ZEARN for 15 minutes.  The students wrote worksheet in their planner but we are doing ZEARN instead.  They will be able to bundle the straws on the assigned ZEARN activity which will give them practice for tomorrow.
  2. Practice your spelling words one last time.  Spelling test tomorrow.
  3. Read for 15 minutes.

Tomorrow’s Spirit week theme is Wear Holiday Colors.  Wear Red and Green and a Santa hat if you have one 🙂

Tomorrow is the last day we are accepting money donations to help the people in Yemen.  If you have not donated yet please consider it- it’s a wonderful way to help people in need.
