Here are the spelling words again just in case.

Monday 9/11/17

Today we began our NWEA test for reading.  We will finish the reading test tomorrow.  Wednesday we will take the NWEA math test.  Remember that Thursday is the Oakman open house- I look forward to seeing all of you there 🙂

Homework:

  1. Complete a weekly spelling homework- all 4 activities are due Thursday

Friday 9/8/17

Each student is bringing home their spelling words for the next week.  I have attached the spelling lists for both 1st grade and 2nd grade.  1st graders will only have the spelling words listed on their spelling test (All spelling tests are on Fridays), 2nd graders will have these words plus 5 mystery words (These words are either sight words or follow the same spelling pattern as the given words).

I have also sent home a laminated copy of the Spelling Bingo Sheet for each student.  This is for your child to keep and will be used the entire school year so please put it in a safe place.  Each week the students will need to complete 4 spelling Bingo activities throughout the week.  The students will bring home their new words on Friday and the 4 activities will be due on the following Thursday.  The students should do their chosen activities in their spelling binder: if they choose a computer task you may either print it out or the student can share it with me on google-docs.  You may do this by hitting the share button and typing in Jennifer Titsworth.  If the child chooses a *parent signature activity, please write the name of the activity in their notebook and then sign in.

I will not collect any spelling activities during the week, only on Thursdays, so make sure you have them all together in your notebook.

Homework this weekend:

  1. Complete a spelling activity [ or more ]  – I always recommend that students complete as many of the 4 spelling activities as they can over the weekend.  Families often have events that take place after school during the week and if your spelling is done your child will have less homework every day.
  2. Have a wonderful time with your family 🙂

Thursday 9/17/17

Hello everyone,

Today was a great day.  We had media and science enrichment for the first time this year 🙂  Tomorrow we have music in the afternoon, Monday we have art, and Tuesday we have music and P.E.  If you have not yet purchased your school supplies make sure you do that- we will begin using our notebooks and folders on Monday.

Homework tonight:  Our writing prompt today was to write about your family.  Students were to write about their families AND draw a picture of their families on the white paper provided.  We will be displaying these in our classroom.  Students are to finish their papers and drawings for homework tonight.  1st graders must have at least three sentences, 2nd graders must have 5 sentences.  You can include your family members’ names, ages, descriptions (what do they look like), and interests (what do they like to do.)  We are displaying these for open house so remember to do your best work.

Welcome to Mrs. Patterson’s 1st and 2nd grade Blog

Welcome to a new school year at Oakman.  I am very excited to be your child’s teacher this year.  We spent today developing classroom rules and procedures, learning about our teacher, and learning about each other.

Each child brought home their Oakman folder today- There is important paperwork in there that must be returned.  Make sure you double check the information on your child’s contact card.  If the information is correct, sign the back and return it tomorrow.  If it’s incorrect, fix the mistakes, sign, and return tomorrow.  Please make sure you add the names of your child’s siblings if they are not already on the card.

There is also a packet from me in the folder. Please sign the back of the forms asking for volunteers- even if you cannot volunteer this year.  I want to have an email address and phone number in case I need to contact you.  The expectations form is for both 1st and 2nd graders- unfortunately when I made copies the 1st grade got cut off.

Our lunch time is from 12:00-12:30.  This may be later in the day than your child is used to.  Make sure your child eats a good breakfast everyday and brings a snack.
