Tuesday 10/03/17

Tomorrow is our trip to the ZOO! Please bring a packed lunch- a bag is easiest because it can be thrown away after lunch and then your child doesn’t need to carry it.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.  We will be outside all day and even though it’s warm in the afternoon, it’s cold in the mornings.  Also, make sure your child has a water bottle because we will do lots of walking.

Make sure your child is on time.  The bus will be here by 9:00 to leave.

Homework:

  1. Read for 15 minutes today
  2. Enjoy your evening and get plenty of rest for tomorrow.

Monday 10/20/17

Homework tonight:

  1. Study your math study guide that came home last week.  Second graders have a test TOMORROW.  First graders have a test on Wednesday.
  2. Complete a word work activity for the week.
  3. If you did not finish your park narrative that we worked on last week (Write about a time you went to the park), you must finish it AND edit it tonight using your laminated editing sheet.  Be sure you bring your editing sheet back to school because you will need it tomorrow.

Friday 9/29/17

Happy Friday.  We had our first ticket drawing today.  Students were given the option to turn in their tickets or hold them until next month’s drawing.  We have been earning them when we get on pink (good day) or blue (great day).  I find that students learn a lot through tickets; we learn probability and odds as well as the difference between saving and spending.  Every month I choose 10 tickets and those kids can pick out of the prize box.  We start over the next month so every student has a chance every month.  I also allow the top first grade reader and top second grade reader to get a prize automatically.

1st grade top reader on Myon- Amin with 16 hours 2 minutes

2nd grade top reader on Myon- Mohammed with 15 hours 3 minutes

Keep up the awesome work!  Remember that reading just 20 minutes every day means that you have 10 hours at the end of the month.  We read in school and you can read at home.

Awesome news about our class:  This month we read a combined 88 hours and 34 minutes on Myon!!! That is fantastic.

Homework:

  1. Read your book bag books every day.  To see your child’s reading level you can check the number on the books in their bag.  It’s on either the front or back cover.
  2. Practice your math study guide.  The second graders have a test on Tuesday, first graders have a test on Friday.

Thursday 9/28/17

Tomorrow’s lunch is nachos and cheese for chef’s choice.

Homework tonight is:

  1. Spelling Test tomorrow, practice your words.  The list is on last Friday’s blog post.
  2. Practice your math skills.  Second graders have their first math test on Tuesday October 3rd, and they are bringing home their study guide.  First graders have their first test NEXT Friday October 6th, and they will bring home their study guide tomorrow.

Second graders- Second graders made a memory game today with their vocabulary words.  They should have 16 cards.  This is a great way to play and game AND learn valuable skills for their social studies unit.  The cards are in their math bag.  Please encourage them to play 🙂

Here are pictures of the words and definitions in case your child loses them or needs to finish writing them at home.

Below are links to games that first and second graders can access for the next month to help them practice their science skills.
