Lunar Eclipse Information- blood moon

We have talked about eclipse’s in class this past week.  There is a lunar eclipse moon tonight going into tomorrow.  Below is the information in case you want to check it out.  The times are for the west side of Michigan so you may need to adjust the times for a few minutes earlier to compensate.

For those who plan to watch it on their own, Headlands offered a handy timeline of the key events on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

  • 5:51 a.m. penumbral eclipse begins; Moon will be over the western horizon
  • 6:48 a.m. partial phase of eclipse begins
  • 7:51 a.m. total lunar eclipse begins (Moon appears reddish brown)
  • 7:56 a.m. will be maximum eclipse visibility at Headlands
  • 8:01 a.m. Moon will set into Lake Michigan and beyond view for us at Headlands, though eclipse endures; the Sun will be rising in the east at the same dynamic moment!
  • 8:29 a.m. maximum eclipse occurs below the horizon for us
  • 9:07 a.m. total eclipse completes
  • 10:11 a.m. partial eclipse ends
  • 11:08 a.m. penumbral eclipse ends

Monday 1/29/18

Tomorrow is our reading NWEA test.  It is very important that the students get a good night’s rest and eat breakfast- we have been working hard all year and no one can think properly if they are tired or hungry.  If your child has headphones at home, they may bring them to school tomorrow for the test.  Please make sure your child is practicing on moby max tonight so they can be as ready as possible.

Homework:

  1. Practice moby max for 20 minutes tonight: choose either foundational skills, blends, vowel sounds, informational reading, or language.
  2. Read for 20 minutes

Reading calendars for the month of January are due on Wednesday 1/31/18.  Make sure you bring it to school 🙂

Happy Monday:

Homework tonight:

  1. Read for 20 minutes
  2. Practice the NWEA practice sites on my blog AND moby max math to review for the NWEA Math Test we are taking tomorrow morning. We reviewed today and we have been practicing our math skills all year long.  This test is to see where your child is mid-year, and to figure out what we need to still learn/practice for the remainder of the year.  Please talk with your child about the important of taking their time (Do Not Rush) and doing their best.  It’s okay if they do not know how to do every problem- we are only half way through the year.
  3. Your child is bringing home their math test they took last week.  Please sign the top (so I know you saw your child’s score) and send it back to school.  I will return it back to you after I check that it has been signed.  Please review the concepts that your child missed.
