Tuesday 5-8-18

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday:

NWEA begins for our class next Wednesday 5/16/18.  The next few days are incredibly busy and exciting but it’s important for students to still be practicing their skills.  Moby Max is an excellent resource for students to practice the skills that will be tested for NWEA Reading and Math.

For NWEA Math Practice- I have sent your child story problem practice activities under NWEA Math.  Make sure you click on the math button and not fact fluency.

For NWEA Reading Practice- The most helpful practice options under Moby Max are:

  • Foundational Skills
  • Reading Skills- Literature
  • Reading Skills- Informational
  • Language

These four categories cover different concepts which will all be on your NWEA test.  Please make sure your child is practicing these concepts before NWEA next week.

Homework tonight:

  1. Practice your flash cards in your math bag
  2. Read for 20 minutes (Or do Reading Skills Literature/Reading Skills Informational on moby max)
  3. Do a weekly spelling activity

I look forward to reading all of your timelines this week.

Happy Monday:

What we are learning this week:

  • In reading we are working on determining the meanings of unknown words based on the context of the story and answering questions regarding non-fiction texts.
    • Moby max non-fiction reading and moby max vocabulary are great tools for practicing this skill at home.
  • In math we are working on determining 10 more, 10 less, 100 more, and 100 less in math, as well representing numbers in base ten blocks.
  • In social studies we are learning about the past, the present, and timelines.
  • In science we are learning about animal and plant characteristics.
  • In writing we are working on our “Best Pet” opinion papers.

I am currently conducting end of the year DRA’s.  I will be doing this for the next two weeks.  Make sure your child is reading every day.

Homework:

  1. Read for 15 minutes

Friday 4/27/18

Happy Friday:

Today we did a science experiment where we cracked open different types of seeds from trees to see what was inside.  Thank you to those students who collected seeds for us to use 🙂

Homework over the weekend:

  1. Complete a weekly spelling activity
  2. Read for 15 minutes from your reading bag every day
  3. If you haven’t completed your science MYON project complete it- It is due on Tuesday May 1st.

I didn’t get a chance to send home the timelines for the timeline project. Students will bring those home on Monday and I will extend the due date as a result. Have a great weekend 🙂
