Here is a resource that explains our first math unit. It has key concepts, models, and key vocabulary. This is for you to read so that you are familiar with the work that your child is doing in class. The students will have math homework tonight so if your child is struggling this is a great resource to help them. parent-tips_g2m1tb

Today the students took the Math NWEA test. They did a wonderful job following directions and doing their best. Tomorrow we will take the NWEA Reading test. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats breakfast tomorrow.
It is going to be very hot tomorrow. I suggest every child brings a water bottle to school so they can stay hydrated.

Happy Thursday:
We had a great first week at school. The students are adjusting to the new school year and we are ready to begin our studies. Our first spelling words are coming home tonight: Students must choose 4 spelling activities from the Spelling BINGO sheet to do every week (the top says 5 but they only need to do 4). Students are given a week to complete 4 activities of their choice. All 4 activities will be checked on THURSDAY of the following week. I will be checking the 4 activities from this week’s words on 9/6/18. I recommend that the students do them over the weekend if they are able to, but they can also do them at home Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. The choice is yours. I know families are busy so I give you time to do it based on your schedule. Our spelling tests will be on Friday every week.
This week’s spelling words are:
We begin NWEA testing next week. We will do NWEA math on Tuesday 9/4/18 and reading on Wednesday 9/5/18. I will be starting DRA’s next week to assess everyone’s reading level. This information will be shared with parents once all of the students are done testing.
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Remember no school tomorrow or Monday. I will see everyone on Tuesday 9/4/18.
Happy 1st day of school:
Thank you very much for having all of the students on time for class today. It allowed the students to find their place in line and we were able to start our day smoothly. If you have not already gotten your child’s school supplies please send those in by Monday at the latest. You can find the supply list on the post below. We begin our lessons tomorrow so it is imperative that each child has pencils and notebooks everyday.
Tomorrow we begin our specials schedule. Below you will see the schedule for the year written out.
Monday: Art
Tuesday: PE (gym) and Music
Wednesday: Library Check Out
Thursday: Media Center and Science Enrichment
Friday: Music
Make sure you have a water bottle to keep in class (it will be very warm this week) and gym shoes for PE tomorrow. Your child brought home an emergency card in their Oakman folder. Please read through it carefully. If it looks correct please write your name and sign the bottom of the back page. If you need to make changes, please write the new information on the card and then write your name and signature on the back. All emergency cards are due by THURSDAY so please send it in as soon as possible.
Get a good night’s rest and I look forward to seeing you for our first full day tomorrow 🙂
Hello Incoming Students and Families:
Below I have posted my school supply list for the upcoming school year. I know many stores are already putting items on sale so I wanted to give you an idea of what your child will need. Please note that a few of the items (Pencils, dry erase markers, loose paper) may run out over the course of the school year. I recommend buying a few extra of these while they are on sale and keeping them at home until your child needs them.
